EuroMeet 2012 - Istanbul

we're checking 6 appartments for availabilty right now. we looked for stuff we could afford just the two of us, but some of them have the option to accommodate one or two more people, so yeah, we'll see where that leads!

I've been in Turkey twice and deeply loved it and its people but never been in Instabul ... this may be the right time to visit the "city of a hundred names" ...

Could I drag a friend along? I think she wants to go too, she's a Leica shooter obviously.
Anyway I'll have to ask her when I get back to London this Saturday!

General area would be Taksim Square then. This is a good place to start the tour, so if you choose your hotels nearby, we can decide a cafe that we can meet.

As a meeting point I strongly recommend the café of Ara Güler, Magnum photographer and a living legend......
His father's pharmacy he transformed into a café. I missed this opportunity when I visited Istanbul Dec. 2010.......

Our friends from Istanbul might have more informations about opening and adress.

EDit: this might be his adress: Istiklal Avenue

I'll try to join but in February I'm in France and end of March in Sicily...

If anyone wants free accomodation, there is space for a couple of people at a mates place in Istanbul. I need to confirm how far from everything they live.

Ara Cafe is a lovely place but if we meet there you will miss 750m from Taksim Square to the cafe

Here is the map (sort of). It is quite easy to find. When you walk from Taksim Square through İstiklal Aveneu, there is another square (a small one) called Galatasaray Square. Ara Cafe is there.

Great stuff smbilgin.

I had the following from some mates in Istanbul:

"There was a concensus on some places. For asia side of the city people suggest a route starting from Kadiköy, then Üsküdar, then visit Kuzguncuk, Çengelköy and if there is enough time and energy of the people finish in Anadolu Hisari. For Europe side of the city people suggested to start from Zeyrek, then Fener - Balat, then Galata, then Tophane and then finish in Karaköy."

What do you think?

so we just booked our flights:
10 april (the tuesday) we arrive at 5:30 in the morning (whaaaaaaa'?),
and we're flying out again the next tuesday, 17 april, sometime in the evening. anyone else around for the whole week?

You can always hit one of the locals up. I have the luxury of an almost non-existent schedule, and I'd be happy to meet people individually or in small groups before the horde makes landfall.

Hi, all. Like Kully said, Des and I are coming between 11/4-15/4. No reservations for accomodation yet, but it will be somewhere near Taksim, just to be close with everyone else.

oh, that's cool, I'll contact him then! didn't find anything yet, but I'll start looking within the next few days.

Simon, let's hook up us early birds. Martin, it 'd be very nice to meet if you 're around before the weekend. Hope Nico and Andrew make it too, really looking forward to seeing everyone.
