He is a gaudy as ever. witness this shot with an M9
The guys know no subtlety at all. But he is a fun read.

It's a technically very good photo. Why call the model ugly?

Yeah I actually like it! It's something I would shoot, definitely. The true Ken Rockwell is the one who'll give you 37 oversaturated pictures of a mesa.

I think it's a nice shot. Vintage signs like that are disappearing all the time so I'm glad some people are making the effort to record images of them.
KR has certainly made gaudier photos than this!

Ken is consistent in his writing style and not aftraid to express his opinions. He took a lot of flack from this site about his prequel of the M9 but he has actually given the M9 a rapturous review. (its the best digital camera in the world). he is also very keen to highlight the American pedigree of this camera. Ken writes with enthusiasm and is very entertaining. Give the guy a break!

it is assuredly better than some other images that make their way to these parts.

I like the lurid, tacky, kitchiness of the image. On the subject of Ken, his opinions and his writings, I will forgo sharing any thoughts, as this is sure to become a messy free-for-all thread in short order. Much more fun to watch everyone else battle this one out from the sidelines than to get bloodied myself. Go at it folks. This should be fun.

Funny, that is one of KR's better photos!

On the same page he did some ISO comparisions which I thought were interesting. 800 seems pretty good. On the 1600 you can definitely see the degradation. However, it would be interesting to see a comparison in ISOs in black and white to see if the degradation the image was as great at 1600 ISO.

I am not associated with Ken but I do contribute $ occasionally to help his growing family.

Yeah, Paul, he obviously doesn't spend ALL his time shooting...pictures.
I find it interesting how he loves the M9 but then makes a big point about how difficult it is to delete 16GB of 'digital junk' while his film stuff is all developed, scanned, and ready to go.

Ken's forte is hyperbole. He gushes about almost every camera he reviews, from the D40 to the M9, with the same over-the-top hype.
He's got a unique style for sure, but I'm not sure he gushes on almost every camera.
"The $8,000 price of the D3X is a rip off. The D3X is a total no-big-deal."
"The D5000 doesn't offer anything much more than the D40, but costs twice as much."
"The D3000 Nikon's newest inexpensive DSLR. It's a good camera all by itself, but it's the worst DSLR Nikon has ever made. What makes it worse by comparison is significantly slower and balkier operation when compared to other Nikon DSLRs."

I have to admit .... that I like that shot a lot. There have been worse photos shown by him.

I guess. The shot is awful.

I read his lens reviews and some of his tips. His Nikon lens reviews have saved me some $$$ over the last few months.
I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and hope that the photos on his site are test shots to show what the cameras and lenses can and cannot do.

I still can't fathom why people visit his site.

Film, the next evolution.
Strangely, the British equivelant of a Petrol Station Forecourt sign wouldn't have the same effect.
