everyday kits...

can we talk about everyday kits?
i notice some folks carry kit that might be considered 'lesser than' for an everyday kit. understandable in some ways...if it were to be stolen or broken or lost then the loss is not as great...even with insurance, who wants kit damaged or stolen...and if we carry our best, most fave gear then the emotional/financial loss could be greater.
do you have a philosophy on everyday kit?

Fujifilm X-Pro2 w/ 35mm, Fujifilm X70, or Nikon Df w/ 58mm. I just don't believe in not using my equipment or saving it for a special occasion. I'm not in a dangerous part of the world and I want to use the gear I feel is the best for me.

Exactly. I have several cameras and I like to take each out now and again. I have insurance for theft so I'm not too worried there, the things are tools and nothing more.

The DD (daily Driver) kit - is the one that makes me happy to use or carry, pretty much disregarding the value of the items. A few weeks ago it was my Classic Nikon SP, next week ?



This week for me it is Olympus OM-4T w 50/1.4 and 85/2.0, film, batteries, filters, pen, wipes all in a Bare Bones Bag:

This is how my everyday kit philosophy drifted during seven or so years:

I started with Canon 5D and 50mm prime.
Received iPhone, switched to and between Olympus XA, Rollei 35, Minox 35.
For now M4-2 with Summarit 35 2.5. iPhone helps to get it digitally for shareable stills and video and measure light sometimes.
I have to charge phone anyway, but camera could stay in the bag for weeks and no worries about dead battery.

I don't worry about getting my stuff stolen. Maybe lost, since I sometimes have been known to leave something behind. But so far, I haven't left any cameras behind. While none of them are very expensive, I value them all. But I still take them out and use them, since I bought them to take photos with. I always have one or the other with me, so the opportunity for theft or absentmindedness is always present, but that's not why we buy cameras.😀

I'll fret the day I loose something or it gets stolen but why have cameras and not use them? But I do take the smaller/lghter ones out more often.

Depends what I'm doing and how I feel. This week I've carried my Yashica Electro 35MC. It's tiny, scale focus and I really like it. Today I had my X-Pro2 as I was shooting some video at work. Tomorrow will probably be a film camera - likely MDa with 25 or 18.

Size matters a lot, and mood as well.

My every day kit is a ultra compact 25-500mm digital + x.
x varies from film cameras to X-M1 with primes and always does the main job.

My EDC is always a jacket-pocketable camera, currently a Sony RX1RII. I compromise in features, speed or lens reach for compactness, but never on quality.

Before that, in reverse chronological order a Fuji X100S, X100, Leica X1, Panasonic GF1, Sigma DP2, Sigma DP1, Fuji F31fd, Fuji F30, Contax T3, Contax T, Olympus Stylus Epic, Canon Powershot S200, Powershot S100, Fuji MX700, Nikon 35Ti.

For my personal work it is the MM(original) and a 35 lux FLE and sometimes I throw my M-E with a 75 summarit over my shoulder but it is usually just the MM.

Typically two film Ms and four lenses - 21, 35, 50, and 90. Sometimes supplemented with an F series Nikon and 180 2.8. If going with four lenses, all M, 21, 25, 75, and 135, all Mandler except the 21 S.A. 3.4. That's the idea small kit for me, since I do use all four lenses and may need them for my longtime - 40+ years - documenting the local volunteer fire companies. Obviously, I can't run home to get a lens/camera when I need it for this.

Like others, I just pick which of my cameras I feel like carrying on a day to day basis. I don't intentionally keep a "lesser kit".

My "everyday kit" is variable, but if I'm grabbing a bag just to have a camera with me instead of knowing I will be shooting that day it's usually either the Nikon 1 kit or my X100s. If I ever pick up an X-Pro2 that with two lenses would replace the X100s.

I do have a real camera (as opposed to a phone that has a lens) with me 95% of the days.

M9 plus either 35 Summilux or 50 C-Sonnar.

Like jsrocket I can't see the point of NOT using my good cameras unless I'm somewhere really dangerous.

my everyday kit may vary on situations and location but i always try to have at least one camera and lens with me most of the time.

for digital it would be my X-E2 + 18mm
for film it would be the M4 + 35mm

honestly if i were to start from scratch, those 2 kit i listed below would probably it for me, along with a 50mm.

If I'm not just using my iPhone?
My everyday kit is my M6 plus one of either a 35 pre-asph summilux or a 21 super anglulon. More likely the 35.
If I'm carrying a bag, and being a bit less everyday and more specific photographing, I might take both lenses - but rarely.
