Just saw this image on my Hyatt account:

A Nikon FM (with the name deleted!). Film appeals to the worldly traveller..
Interesting choice instead of something more upscale like a Leica or Rolleiflex. It is a fantastic camera.

p.s check out the trashed filter ring!

Sadly, the ruined condition of the Nikon lens's filter ring is probably due to the fact that whomever was directing the photo shoot or choosing the photo just said "I want someone holding an old camera" or "Use something that looks like a camera. That will do..." rather than any particular intent in using a Nikon FM with a ruined lens.

While likely, it doesn't matter to me 🙂

Of course! It's an ad! Not a camera crew following a photo journalist in the wild.

It's just a prop.

Of course, you expected something different?

So what?

I think the point is that they are actually using film cameras as part of this ad series. It probably means nothing, but those ads are seen by countless people and they are seeing film cameras.

Additionally they are equating those film cameras with terms such as "Explorer" and "Adventurer." Their initial point is that these type of people stay at their hotels. But the other underlying message is that these types of people also use these types of cameras.

Some underlying advertising messages are intended (book hotel rooms), some may only be accidental (these type of people do not use their i-Phone or a digital camera.) But they are still relaying a message to those who see the ad.

If I am not mistaken, that is the reason for advertising. Relay a message that sells something. Maybe they will sell a few film cameras along with booking some hotel rooms.

"One free Nikon FM for every 7 nights booked (dented filter ring extra)"

Sure, they're seeing it, but that doesn't necessarily mean they recognize it specifically as a film camera.

I'd think the Nikon FM(2?) is upscale enough, I mean, it's still regularly sold for over $200 in the used market, its competitor from the same era (pentax etc) are sold for half and some time lower of that price 🙂

Rollei 35 special edition?

Rollie 35 Classic Titanium in black lacquer finish, I believe. Probably one of the very last versions of the Rollei 35. A long time ago now, I had two of the Rollei 35 Classic Platinum model. You can tell it's the Classic line due to the reinforced flash mount pedestal on the top of the camera and gold lens tube release button.
