Exeriences with the 50/2.5 Skopar

Bill, you might use the Google search feature in RFF to find previous threads on this subject... The lens has a tarnished reputation due to rumors of mediocre sharpness, false and unwarranted in my brief experience, but it keeps the price down. 🙂

I think it has a more pleasant "look" to it than the CV 40 and 50 Noktons, and seems plenty sharp. Mine has a slight bit of pincushion distortion visible when there's a straight line along one frame edge.

Couple of 50 Skopar shots with Fuji NPZ800...

The lens is one of the first lens I bought before I switch to the 35mm focal length as my normal lens. Overall construction is excellent with solid brass barrel but if you are looking for ultra sharp images, this is not the lens but it has a very pleasant soft look.

In term of handling, Nokton is quite bulky, so Skopar wins. For picture quality, Nokton is very sharp, even wide open. But in my opinion, its rather too sharp and it loses that old B&W feeling.

So, if sharpness is your concern and you don't mind handling a bulky lens, go for the Nokton.

Regards
Tachi..
