I thought I didn't like portraits as a genre, that I was unable to appreciate a good portrait from a lousy one.
Then I discovered Irving Penn in an exhibition in NY....

The badge on the bootlid of a Citroën DSuper from 1973 or thereabouts.

The Citroën ID/DS series is probably the single most spectacular car ever made; the Goddess (Déesse) moniker was pretty well deserved. I ran one for a few months, but it's been laid up to be donor for a repair/restauration project of what used to be a Citroën DS 23 i.e. Pallas, on which my father is currently working.

In the mean time, I have to make do with a Citroën Xantia Turbodiesel with 300.000 miles on it. That still has the same oleo-pneumatic suspension system though, with comfort spheres mounted, so it's not at all bad. You see, I'm hopelessly Citrophile :D

This rather-morose looking fellow, apart from resembling me due to his formidable shaven head, also happens to be the director of La Jetée, Sans Soleil, and countless other little marvels of cinema and photograhy.

I thought he could use the exposure, him being so shy and all...

The writer Raymond Chandler. I find the shot with the pipe, which I suppose is meant to look sophisticated, amusing. He was creator of the famous, fictional P.I., Phillip Marlowe.

On other forums I use this quote from his book, The Big Sleep, as a signature.

A picture of me that my closest friend took at his father's funerals...
He was playing with the Nikon D60 his dad gave him before he died from cancer.
It is an image that I cherish...

When I first joined RFF I had a shot of my Fed 2, my first rangefinder which seemed logical for a photo forum. When I bought my first Leica it felt the obvious step to make that my avatar . It's just stuck really , I probably use my M2 slightly more now but the IIIg still gets a lot of use as its a very nice camera to shoot with and well .. I still like the shot.

Mine is a pic of my departed Contax N Digital. Although the camera was the final nail in the Contax coffin I really loved the low ISO performance coupled with great Zeiss glass.

Being as I shoot primarily rangefinders I should probably change it but it just makes me a smile a bit when I see it.

me at a 15th century living history event in Vienna, wearing a nice copy of an around 1450 open faced helmet :)

It's a reflection me out shooting with my M8. I was on some steps looking in through a glass window that had a reflective coating on it. - Jim

A mirror self-portrait taken with a Hasselblad and Fuji FP100C instant film. Camera's on a tripod. You couldn't do this shot one-handed with a Hassy :).
