Hey everybody

Need some help, Im thinking of buying an 18 mm for my M7, but ive never used an external viewfinder before. How does it work when i use the focus on with an external viewfinder? Must i focus in the viewfinder on the camera first, and after look in the external to find the the real frames of the picture?

Thx for the help...

Regards Alexander:)

Yes. Focus with the usual vf/rf of your camera, then frame with the external vf for the lens.

Right, you have to switch finders between framing and focusing - I'll often forget one or the other, and avoid external finders, except for ultrawides, where focusing really is only needed very occasionally.

Welcome to the forum Alexander! :) Yes you do have to switch as described above. Best to stand really near your main subject and focus on that, then frame through the external VF keeping in mind your plane of focus. Post some shots with the 18mm, we haven't seen too many from that lens here! :)

An 18mm lens on the 24 x 36mm format has a hyper-focal distance at f4 of 2.72m...and half that distance at f8.

How critical is the focusing need?

Hey Guys

Thx for the help.... I guess i can quess the focus, and the focus should be pretty easy with a wide. Really not sure if I will get an 21 mm or 18 mm. If i buy the lens ill try and post some pictures taken with it. Before that ill try to post some pictures taken with my xpan:)
