...to expensive rangefinder gear!

Though I can't match Jorge, I'm selling out my humble collection of 'expensive' rangefinder gear. All the lenses have just been posted and should appear shortly. I'll make a list of all the aks, filters and flashes and list them tomorrow. The Hexar RF is already listed, of course. And I sold my pair of M6TTL bodies before joining this forum (y'all missed out...both had the MP finder upgrade and the beater went for $1,000!)

Anyway, this will leave me with only a Canonet needing a CLA and a Panasonic Lumix with a 'Leica' lens in the rangefinder camp. The sad thing is, I don't think I can honestly say that all the aspherical lenses and German crafted bodies improved my photography one whit over the Canonet I started with a decade ago. Some lessons are hard to learn, though! 😀
 
Kevin, if I remember correctly, you make a living with photography. Or not?

In any case... you follow your heart. If selling this gear to fund an expensive Canon outfit makes you happy, more power to you.

Good luck with the sales. I can say I benefitted from one. The Konica Hexanon Kevin sold me in 2004 is still with me, and it came in such a great shape that I thought it had never been used. Sorry, Kevin, but I put on it some use makrs and now... you still would recognize it, but it shows it has traveled.

Again, good luck with your sales. I'm certainly glad you're keeping a Canonet! 🙂
 
If you venture into Canon, the brand I started my "real" photography with. Consider the 5D. Best digital SLR price/performance. Full frame is the way to go, I hate the cropp factors, not so much for the cropping of the lens itself, but the viewfinder! I love big bright viewfinders!

I borrowed one from a friend of mine recently, and much as I prefer rangefinder handling, you can't argue with the mind-blowing quality of the Canon sensor at high iso's. A 5D with a 'cheap' Canon 50/1.2 shooting at 1600 is a just freakin' awesome, much as it pains the German lens snob in me to admit it. 😀
 
Kevin, you are going to have fun and instant gratification. Quite a bit of a change from film and old school technology. Keep the Canonet tho... it's an old friend. You don't sell one's old friends. It still will perform wonders and be a 1/3 the size of a Canon 5D with a battery pack and weigh less.

Don't forget to come back and post some shots from the Canonet, looking forward to it.

I just sold 2 5D's and a mess of "L" glass.....it's great stuff but for over a year with them and more time with other Canon's....I just couldn't get into the SLR thing...image quality is unsurpassed...but the camera is like a tank...not intuitive at all and more like a tool....I always used my M's for my work...and the Canon's for $$$ work...but now...it's the R-D1s...sold 2 M8's too.....if you need a good site for Canon...there's none better than

I'm not giving up on film! Part of the proceeds from this sell-off purchased a new Nikon Coolscan 5000. 😀 But I think when I use an RF in the future, I'll use them on their own terms and not try to make them do 'everything.'
 
I'm pretty sure Joe was joking (though he'll correct me if not, I'm sure.) I think he was riffing along the lines of jokes that refer to plainly evil people as "just misunderstood": like "Stalin wasn't evil..."

I still shoot film. I shoot digital, too, using both to the respective strengths.

Using the best capture medium makes a very large difference in final image quality. The Summilux Aspherical 35 contributes only a minor difference to final image quality.

Hmmm....interesting....I am seeing a major difference in using aspherics. The kind of difference that makes me wich I had gotten them sooner. But then again, I am shooting Kodachrome.
