Favourite Places in London to Photograph

I live just outside zone 1 in Elephant and was thinking of taking a w alk early tomorrow morning until about lunch time and seeing what I got

I live next to the walworth estate so would like to get some 'grey and drearys' of that but don't know how that will work out

from there I will walk over up to London Bridge probably but I haven't much decided where to go beyond that...

city is deadish on the weekends so perhaps I'll walk round here but where to go after that?

markets are too much hastle. I'd love to do east street market but it's quite intimidating to be honest, quite a rough area.

Borough market is quite near you and a photographer's paradise.

I've done borough, not to say I wouldn't do it again but hell's bells could it get any busier!

a good idea though and on the way to london bridge....yep definetly. also crowds to dissapear into- always a bonus!

I like the walk along the Thames from London Bridge down to Tower Bridge and also around Tate Modern.

I find London a very uninspiring place to shoot. Maybe it's just that it is a very unfriendly/draining city, but I find almost every other city I've ever been to more inspiring...

Oh, and 3 stops on the overground train from Elephant gets you to Nunhead, which has a spectacular cemetery, completely wild and overgrown.

Does Brighton count? It's only an hour away by train.

it takes over an hour if you factor in other stuff....plus i've got to be in kensington come the evening so nto tomorrow no 🙂 another day.

Yeah those signs are great, I used to work right next to one.
Brick Lane is quite interesting on a Saturday, not as rammed as a Sunday and a good juxtaposition between Trendy Hungover types and Bengali culture, particularly if you explore the streets off side. There are a couple of gigs on at Rough Trade East, so will get busier mid afternoon which would be interesting.
Also check the tide times and get on the Thames Beach, southbank at low tide. Get on at The Globe theatre (massive steps near the jetty), then walk West, you'll have the place to yourself, and some unique and grimy shots of london. You can get off at Tate modern (no distance) or just past Gabriels wharf. Keep an eye on the tide though, it is VERY dangerous if coming in fast. If low you should have several meters of beach to yourself.
Also if in The City the alleys are great, lots of tiny alleys with street names, I think there is a project all in itself just with them, fascinating to me at least!
There is also a good walk from Limehouse, along the Thames through the Isle of Dogs to Greenwich Foot tunnel, through the tunnel to Greenwich, that's a good one.
Wab Shabeli in Elephant is a good place to go at night, Ethiopian restaurant with great food, and great music/dance etc... You'd get some good low light shots there.
In Kennington there are some great Georgian Squares, again the juxtaposition of those against the dreary 60's council blocks locally is interesting.
Also St James Park is a rich hunting ground if you want to travel, much much better than you would think.

Oh and Shad Thames going east to bermondsey could bear fruit, particularly if you start off going along the river, you then get to the house boats (assuming they are still there) and have to come off at a creek near there.

I quite like areas of Elephant and Castle like Crampton St - there's not a lot of that kind of architecture left in London. The City at the weekends, the Barbican (especially the conservatory, I think it's only open on Sundays), and there's a really nice little churchyard near those no nuisance signs (Copperfield St. I think).

If you're in that area Scooterworks on Lower Marsh is great, can't really think of anywhere else I like to photograph in London. I'm actually dreading coming back a bit from a photography perspective, I'm not sure if it is boring because I grew up there of because it is genuinely less photogenoc than other cities...
