New York February NYC Camera Convention/6th Annual Camera Beauty Contest

I know, and plus the prices of film camera's it was a great deal. I was in B&H the
other day and went to the used department and looked at the show cases one
side was full of digital cameras the other side had the film cameras and it was
pretty empty someone buying this stuff, plus they had a cart with four shelves
on it full of Nikon D700's that they collected from people buying the D750's.

Stories like these are Not Helpful to those of us who are trying to kick this kind of habit :D

Congrats! :)

Even worse is when Bob recovered a black Contax in goat leather that I gave him. With a Zeiss lens what a nice rig with a very nice VF'er. Bob did a great-great job.

BTW more of this Italian goat leather will be brought out as prizes for the "Camera Convention."

We need to introduce a special team prize for the most exotic matching kits. The pair to beat will feature two rare OM shift lenses, both converted to nikon mount.
Cal, are you on my team?

Christian,

Let's team up. LOL. Do you want a MD-4 motordrive on your F3HP? Of course I have a second one.

Everbody likes twins. LOL.

New contest catagory: Free Gear.

This catagory is for only gear that was obtained free. Last year I found a Leitz Tilt-All tripod that I found on Broadway near the Leica Gallery. Basically I garbage picked this treasure and then recycled it by awarding it to Sam as the Grand Prize. This year we need an update of this tripod from Sam. Hopefully it got used.

Last year at work my boss who generally does not like me gave me a brand new Pelican case that features wheelies and an extendable handle. Basically this came as the case for a RF spectrum analizer for a Cyclotron lab. I intend on keeping this trophy in case I ever go large format, but this contest is really about bragging rights. Be someone's hero by sharing without creating envy.

Let's make this "Camera Convention" big. Also know this event is a great place to trade, barter and sell gear. I also encourage recycling because its just the right thing to do.

BTW my Pelican case will logistically hold some of the gear I'll be bringing. Somehow I have to raid my Public Storage to get some of my camera bags before February 8th.

Are you all prepared to go up against my 1913 Kodak meniscus lens adapted to the front of a Minolta zoom barrel (no optics) and changed to Nikon F mount? I only wish I could put this great lens on a camera with a larger film area.

I'm wondering if matching, complimentary Mamiya 6 bodies could compete. I want to re-cover them with something to replace the old rubber which gets slick in the humid heat and slick in the frigid cold. The problem is the contoured grip part which the fingers wrap around. Shaped leather might be a solution, I'm not sure.

I'm hoping to have my new wide-angle rig up and running by the time the Beauty Contest rolls around but it's possible it won't work without severe modification of either camera or lens. I'll have to see. Modification is no big deal. I can do that at work. I just need to decide if I want to make any permanent mods.

Phil,

Brutal. Looking forward to also seeing that new IR camera also. Don't forget that. We love the unusual, the rare, the strange, and the bizzare.

The notion of modification is funny, I think. Funny in that I have no problem butchering a digital camera to do or fit something it shouldn't but I won't do that to a film camera without very serious thought. If I could only afford a full frame Nikon DSLR to cut up...

Phil,

The year is still early. LOL.

Anyways I like cameras that are "monsters." LOL.

Cal,
I have been using my "new" tripod with my Polaroid backed 9x12 and 6x9 plate cameras. I will have some prints to show.

Also, if I was to win your Busch , I have plans for it, or any other RF equipped 2x3 camera, that I plan to demonstrate at the meet-up with necessary backs.

Does anyone want any third party zooms? If so, let me know what mount and focal length range, and I will see if I have something. I was given a box of them, some are clean, some are dirty, have fungus, etc. I think they are better off being used for conversions like Phil has done to meniscus lens, or any other project, than just simply discarded.

Sam,

I can say that Christian could use an Olympus and Nikon F-mount to play around with. Also Phil is a likely candidate.

I have also done some day trading, inspired by Cal. Iwas given a large box of Minolta AF bodies, parts Canon AE-1 bodies and some AF Minolta zooms. Since I have no use for AF anything, I was able to trade them for a Pentacon Six TL with 80/2.8 Biometar AND 180/2.8 Jena Sonnar. I am very happy with this transaction, since both lenses produce wonderful images. This kit is rather large and heavy, I don't think I will bring it to the meet. It makes my Koni-Omega seem small and manageable.

Sam,

This definately adds ammo to your fight for the Busch Pressman. I feel it is a remarkable find/trophy, and I kinda already established the bragging rights by buying it for $24.99 plus tax.

Funny thing is how I discovered it at Housing Works so close to Puck Fair. LOL. You can't make this stuff up.

Great to hear that the Leitz Tilt-All is getting good use. More ammo for your win. At this point you are highly favored. BTW the Pressman is a more remarkable find. Almost like a time capsule.

Sam,

Don't be a wimp. LOL. The whole idea of the Camera Convention is to be over the top and crazy.

If you wimp out I'll remove the "Crazy" from your tag because it is not your true identity.

Cal,
I am gunning for it. 😄
I am still untouchable, as far as bargains go with my Bessa II, equipped with 105/3.5 Color Heliar I was very lucky to find at Slavation Army store on 12/24/2012 for a princely sum of 24.99 plus tax. That was one of the best Christmas gift I have given myself.

Sam,

The more ammo you bring the better. Only one way to fight: win.

I'll be glad to give the Pressman to someone who will use it.

So here's some trash talk: How clean is your Bessa II? As far as price goes my price is tied with yours. Did you pay tax like I did?
