Ok folks, I'm here. Not waiting outside Puck Fair; I mean I'm in Jersey City. Barring anything such as employment or employment I'll be there!
I'm entering my combat veteran M4 with DR Summicron + goggles and an E. Leitz NY filter. I'll bring a print or two made with the M4 + 'Cron to the meeting/swap/mob.
I might also enter my ugly duckling Nikon SP.
As for the homemade 4x5, all I have to do is get back to Philly and it'll be loaned out for the contest.
Speaking of 4x5, I do also have a Speed Graphic in perfect working condition along with two Grafmatic backs and TWO Graflites, one brushed aluminum and one polished chrome. I have enough flashbulbs to light up a darkened stadium like it was day time and all the film around was slower than 100 ISO. If I don't sell those, I'll bring them as well. That is indeed a fun kit. I think it would probably beat Cal's F3P with MD4 and Noct-Nikkor in the weight department.
So very good to be back!
And holy crap, is it cold!

My friend, "Luis Mendez" always invites me to go down to New Orleans with him. Basically Luis takes Amtrack and makes money on the train. One of these years I'm going to go. Here's an old man that hung out as a kid with Eugene Smith in the "Jazz Loft." Basically he's become an urban legend.
It's funny because Jeff has compared me to Luis because frequently Jeff runs into me at B&H. While Luis hangs outside, my haunt where I become the tourist attraction is inside right by the used department. My friends Ed, Abe and Chris often politely ask me to to just step aside so that they can handle other customers when a crowd gathers around me. LOL.
Anyways I'm somewhat interested in the Speed Graphic. Just don't tell my girlfriend. LOL.

I know... I'm just a confused artist... but heading down to New Orleans with Luis for Marty Graws sounds like too much fun. Now this would be a crazy adventure, but please don't tell Maggie yet. LOL.
Anyways I think Cristian knew that it was a matter of time before large format moved into my life.

Why bother with those old flimsy wooden cameras. If you go LF you should do it properly. How about a 5x7 Linhof Super-Technika, rangefinder coupled of course, as a street shooter;

You camera nerd guys are always looking to make your photography harder to deal with. If you're going to do it...do it right:

Call me a dreamer with a boring day job, but I've already been looking at Linhof Super Technika's. There's one in the classified right now.
Gotta love those Linhof grips. I really like your Linhof, but I may grow out of having a Paul Smith body if I pun another inch on my chest by all the upper body strength required to go shooting with John for a day every weekend shooting large format. As it is already my right arm is oversized from carrying the cameras that John calls "Monsters."
Then again you might have me pegged right as a 120 kinda guy because I like taking lots of shots, but the technical side of large format and huge negatives perhaps is leading me to maybe 8x10 and contact printing.
Ebony makes some really nice field and view cameras. I'm thinking that I want a tripod camera. Anyways this is what I think about at work while I'm trying to stay awake. Sometimes I kinda knap-out. It's kinda quiet in a cyclotron vault deep underground in a physics lab. LOL.
P.S. Just don't tell Maggie, my girlfriend about any of this. She loves me, but maybe not that much. LOL.

John, everyone knows that a true artist must suffer for their art, but there is the often overlooked part where they make others suffer even more. ;D

Yes, true Phil... but I thought that was more about coming to terms with your "vision" and lack of money than introducing new gear into the equation.
The cold weather is giving Cal serious GAS. I predict an ALPA phase soon.

One of the reasons I feel like a 55 year old man trapped in a 30 year old body is that I happen to like heavy cameras. Shooting with you young guys is not easy, especially carrying two medium format cameras, or one gigantic Pentax.
The Linhof surely is a heavier camera than a Speed Graphic and if I eventually go 4x5 I can see me with a Linhoff. Gotta to love that grip.

Not being able to shoot is surely making me crazy. This arctic blast is fatiguing me, and basically I fall asleep after dinner.
The Monochrome burst the dam BTW. Now anything is possible. Did you know that you can fit a Phase One back to a Linhof Master T, and also certain 4x5 Ebony view cameras.
Of course know that I'm already spent out on the Monochrome.

Nah John, there is no rangefinder. I also imagine the obligatory pack-donkey being a distraction from your street flow.

Phil if you are indirectly saying that I'm annoying I would have to agree. I not only drive myself crazy, but I also tend to make other people crazy. It seems like I bring out both the best and worse in people.
And for making people crazy, just ask my boss at work. LOL.

Cal,
Any time you want to take the technika out for a spin, you are welcome to. I think it will take you about one afternoon to realize what a great proposition the monochrome really is in comparison.

Steve,
Thanks for the post. That case for the camera is kinda wonderful.
Somehow an Ebony SW45 that weighs just 3.3 pounds rigged with a 47mm Super Augulon XL seems like a dream kit.

Ebony makes a 20x24 view camera also that's about eleven pounds lighter at 44 pounds. Its not the kind of camera you hold in one hand and tighten the tripod screw with the other.
Where's the grip?
