New York February NYC Meet-Up/ Fourth Annual Camera Beauty Contest

I know what you mean. I couldn't pass up on an $18 Minolta CLE, regardless of condition. Now you have two M bodies to raise your workstation to the right height for when you are all digital.

You bought a CLE for $18!!?? Run and buy a lottery ticket..... you never know.....:D

Pro-Mone,

I'm going to buy a lottery ticket after work today. I hate my boss, and if I win the lottery, I will still come to work to aggravate my boss. Basically making his life awful will be my full-time job.

Cal

Cal, if you win the lottery and go back to work, I will personally go there and get you fired.

When I worked at Grumman, in the early 80's, there was this guy that worked on a drop hammer press that won two million dollars in the Lotto. Basically he worked in an airplane factory, and his job was placing a heat-treated sheet of aluminum over two guid pins and then he would use each hand to press two mushroom shaped widely spaced buttons a 200 ton press would come down and stamp out a part. The floor shook every time he made a part in a building a quarter mile long that was an 1/8 mile wide.

Anyways this guy, basically did not quit his job and it annoyed the piss out of me. Anyways the point of my story is that I really hate my boss and I have good reason to not like him. Believe me I would really love to make him suffer, perhaps that's the Asian in me. I want revenge...

Cal

More like a box of CLE parts. I'm not sure I could sell it for more than $18.

It's basically a mad scientist project. Got to love the inspiration. In other words: artists and creative people do dumb things. LOL.

Famous artists do dumb things that are impressive. LOL.

Accually Cristian's Linhoff that he built from parts and cammed his own lenses is very impressive.

Maybe Christian can make a prototype CLE with a Linhof grip?

We should never have had Cal wear all that gear for that photo. Now he's trying to make it a reality. I have this vision that once he reaches that goal we might see a few new mirror shots of him wearing all his photo gear, taken with the Leica MM. :D
At least he never grabbed that black paint IIIg that was sitting in the case at Lens & Repro for months before they closed last fall.
As for grips, I have the makings of a perfect grip. It would go great on an 8x10 Deardorff...

I will be Happy to Co-JUDGE with Barrett !!!
ah what Sinister Fun we will have ...:p

I do think it needs a 'Woman's' Perspective
enough of this MALE Hierarchy ...:p...;)

Helen, you're on. :)

Cal: working on the print prizes later this week (things were a bit crazy up till now). Will PM with details.

Methinks this is going to be a bit more interesting than past Pageants...which is saying something.

Barrett,

No doubt that this years event will be big. I have that moo-EE retro Bakelite "Norwood Diector" that basically is an early Sekonic incidence light meter that comes with an original presentation case; one working PanaVue Slide viewer; and a second Pana View that needs a new bulb.

How many catagories are we having this year?

I say we have one for a two camera kit, with the rule that it can be big, but it has to be light enough to carry for a full day of shooting.

Of course we love accessories and mucho pimped out cameras.

It will be interesting having Helen as a judge. I have to remember to bring that roll of Fuji Neopan 1600 to give her as a bribe. LOL.

Phil,

I accually have a weakness for a IIIG and know of that repainted IIIG that was available, but right now I'm excited about the chrome M4 I just got. It is kinda gummed up with thickened grease and its a real shelf queen with an intact "L" seal.

When I send it to Sherry for an overhaul, I'm thinking I will have it modded with the added driveshaft that is required for use with a TA Rapidgrip. While I'm at it I will likely at least get a M3 film advance. Pehaps I might get a M3 lens lock guard installed.

Anyways, I'll be bringing the M4 to the February Meet-Up. Andre saw it over the weekend and saw the extreme makeover that is occuring in our studio. His wife balked at the amount of cameras lined up on a shelf. Anyways it is looking good.

Cal

GEAR ALERT: Incoming chrome Leica M4. Couldn't pass up this "Shelf Queen" offered at Adorama for $599.00. It's overall condition is "E" but it was sold at a "F" price because it was unused and suffers from an ear-rat-tic shutter that has sticky slow speeds and a vertical alignment issue, nothing that a CLA/overhaul from Sherry can't overcome. The "L" seal is intact, meaning it likely never was service/butchered.

Anyways along with my chrome 50 Lux ASPH and TA Rapidgrip this rig is mucho bad ass. Today at my boring day job I'll be dry firing this rig to hopefully move some of that stiff grease around.

BTW I was fondling this new camera last nigh while watching TV. "Maggie" did not take notice that I smuggled another new camera into the apartment. LOL. Don't tell my girlfriend, but I already love this camera.

Cal

Lately Adorama has some great deals on this stuff, that's where I got
my Nikon S3 with a 50mmf1.4 lens for $300.00 dollars, I do get things
from B&H as well but Adorama has some nice stuff, Hopefully I can meet
all of you this month, but having problems at work with the worst
boss I might of ever had wants me to work a 3:00 AM in the morning
which won't work for me No car and there's no buses at that time.

I have a Micro-Manager who sadly says, "I come to work for fun," and basically has no friends nor a life. Its doubtful that even his wife talks to him. Anyways sometime I have to ask myself, "Why do I breath air?"

This loser sucks the life out of me and I hate being around him. The things we do to have a day-job.

Hope you can make this grand event.

Cal

Cal, I was the one who bought the repainted IIIG from Vick. I'll bring it to one of our NY meets.

Wow. I kind of miss the IIIG I had. Used it with a Canon/Serenar 28/3.5 and Canon VF'er as a street camera. I'm glad that some gear is haunting.

The black paint Leica II (Model D), I originally bought, sold to John and the bought back. This was during a time when I was "day trading" Leica LTM's and all kinds of crazy deals were coming my way.

I miss this M3-DS that was factory overhauled and had a brand new "L" seal, but now I have this M4 to make up for the loss. In a way the M4 is a better camera for me, but imagine a M3 that had its rangefinder resilvered by the factory.

I had an art dealer track me down, he wanted some old retro gear for his wife, and I made a trade for some vintage Bruce Davidson prints from the "Welsh Miners" series. My two shots are of the little girl in front of an ancient tombstone, and the little boy with the Teddy Bear, doll in a baby carriage with the mine looming in the background. The prints have the Magnum stamp on the reverse. I also culled down a lot of un-needed gear with this trade.

Cal

GEAR ALERT: I expect a Monochrome delivery this Thursday. I'll be doing a Mac attack and be getting a Mac Book Pro perhaps this weekend. Don't tell "Maggie" that I already made space on my standing desk for a NEC PA721W.

Officially at the NYC Meet-Up Klaus has the cooler "Vintage Monochrome," but I'll have the brand new one. LOL.

LOL will be fun !
I guess it's the NEC 271W, nice - I love it. Supposedly -especially for B&W, this is one of the best. How will you get out and and shoot your first 1000 frames with the incoming MM with this winter weather, fully hooded and face mask?

Klaus,

I have a Ninja costume that is basically high tech engineered clothing made for rock climbers. Anyways this is what I wear to work in basically a physics lab. LOL. The sad part is that I have not been able to really shoot outside, and because of the low level Cancer I have, now I'm slightly Anemic. So far I still don't need any treatment, but I'm taking Iron supplements to counter the Anemia. It will likely take mild spring weather before I can shoot again.

Anyways, I couldn't be any more serious about becoming a better photographer. Use to be my philosophy to shoot-shoot-shoot to just capture images without any regard to scanning or printing, meanwhile I shot and developed massive amounts of film, and now I have a major headache because of the editing and printing that lays ahead. I'm talking years of work.

Anyways now I'll be using my obsessive and annoying behavior to become a good digital printer. Did lots of research. The Epson does not have the inks installed yet, but when I print I will do it big time. Only one way to be good IMHO and that is go crazy, all the way, and print a lot.
