Philippines Filipino RF users!!!

Annie & Wam

Meron suggestion sa isang thread na kasya raw ang R-D1 sa Kiev case. I've got some of those lying around. And the late cases are easily convertible to become half cases- the top cover is attached with a snap.

Organise na natin EB. When is most appropriate?

Holiday EB

Holiday EB

Calling all pinoy RFers here in Manila-

Am volunteering my place for a Christmas get-together. Ano date ang gusto nyo?

Meron ba tayong mga kasama from abroad na uuwi for the holidays?

I'm thinking of a post-Christmas date; it should be easier to gather then, once the Christmas rush is done. Any ideas?

whoa! party time! but i don't think i have any money left even for fare. makikihitch na lang ako siguro. i just got back last night. and, i have bad news. the films in hk are also hard to find (at least, the films i am looking for) and (sorry, wam) no chinese films in the photo shops i went to. and it gets worse. the cheapest rd1s that i canvassed costs HK$15,500! (about $200 more than what jay got!) the first one i tried even had a horizontal rf alignment problem. the guy at tin cheung says "no problem, i bring out another one". and, that other one is here with me in the philippines. bad gas!
so annie, it looks like i will be the one asking you to throw some money my way. i thought the extra cost is worth the convenience and satisfaction of giving in to the gas. so far, the tool works just fine.
and i found a small billingham hadley that is just right for my rd1s. so i got that one. i also got rid of the epson neck strap. for the cost of the camera, they should have put a better strap. i had to put on a more reliable one. i was looking for gordy. nada. so, it's the artisan.
btw, some of my colleagues tried going for bargain shops and almost got scammed. i warned them from the stories i picked up from this site (another topic for a thread).

Congrats Eddie! Ano pa nakuha mo sa HK? Did you get Leicas, lenses or the 'blad?

So the situation here is also happening in HK: films fast disappearing. It's not really strange to find no Chinese films stocked there. That's not the first time I heard of that- even in Shanghai, Chinese films can be hard to find. And the Chinese themselves seem to prefer Kodak or Fuji when they want film. At least that's what how my cousin (taga-mainland) reacted when I asked him about Lucky and Era films a few years ago.

So when do hold the meet?

Jay

jay,
after looking at some m3s, i decided to go for the epson. the m3s were going for HK$8000 up. and it was like playing russian roulette. i tested 5. each one had a problem. the advance lever didnt spring back. the shutter screen got stuck. the 1 second speed took too long. ding on the area of the viewfinder. and when i found one that worked perfectly, the lady says that is HK$11,000! :bang: the hassies were in another show window. HK$20,000 up for a set. i did not bother. and besides, the 120s were even harder to find in hk. but the real reason: i was only allowed to take one by my sweet boss/creditor/budget commissioner. :D she reminded me that i am not the only one celebrating xmas this year.
after xmas is a good time to meet. i dont mind eating leftovers from xmas. it would be in keeping with the times. especially after the tragedy in bicol. i would have had second thoughts about the purchase had that happened prior. i would probably still go for the camera and forgo the bag and neckstrap.

let me introduce myself and my camera by way of a picture attachment. looking forward to a great xmas leftover party with you guys.

Ok, let's have a vote for the 29th. Sounds fine with me.

Eddie

The M3's cost that much? I've got one, not too minty, but works right. BTW, the advance lever doesn't really spring back, but it should stay where you leave it as well. I'm currently playing with it now. Baka magtampo kasi. Ginawa na niya dati 'yun. I'm rediscovering the pleasures of shooting with it.
Only if there were as much film as there was before....

Jay

Yey another RD1 user from the Philppines!!! Please post pictures using the CV 15 with your new DRF. I will be purchasing a wide already.

I'm ok on the 29th too, my film fest projects will be done by that time kasi palabas na hehe. I will be going to Thailand on the weekend, any good camera stores there, second hand ones in search of good LTM lenses...wish I find a Jupiter-3 there :D I can also look for film, or for a case for your RD1 Zorki!

ok 29 with me.
ditoy,
here is the link to the cv15 picture. the vignetting can be bad if aperture is below f8.
jay,
ganun pala ang advance lever ng m3. pero mahal pa rin siya. discouraging ang presyo.

Eddie

May mali sa previous post ko. Should have said "...but it should not stay where you leave it as well...". The M3 lever should return by its own, but usually not as quickly as the current levers. May defect nga siguro nakita mo. Regarding slow shutters, this is normal with M3 which have not seen action in ages.

Filmfest? Kaya pala nakita ko name sa credits ng isang recent local fantasy flick sa Cinema-1. I was asking in another list about using cases with R-D1, not to keen about it, but I do have some Kiev-4 cases which I can modify for it.
Someone said that these cases fit.

Jay

Nice initial pictures Eddie! May vignetting nga on the RD1 which was mentioned on this forum before, at least using high iso setting can help. The CV 12 has better performance daw for the RD1s but its more expensive.

Yes Jay, I am sound supervisor for various movies ever since Exodus last year. This year mostly Regal produced films- 4 movies for this Filmfest (Zsazssa Zaturna, Super Noypi, Shake Rattle and Roll 8, and Mano Po 5) Going to Thailand to encode dobly-surround for Zsazsa Zaturna. Tama ka, your Kiev cases will fit RD1.

So far, I found 2 camera stores in Thailand, if you guys need anything that they carry, leme know. Hindi yan libre of course! hehe

ditoy...b&w film! lucky or colpan...subok lang baka meron.

this just crossed my mind...why dont we hold an exhibit? photos taken with rangefinders. usapan natin sa party.

Ditoy: Exodus nga ang napanood ko. With the number of Regal entries to the previous filmfests, I am beginning to think that Mother Lily uses the event as a tiangge for her films. Sell in bulk, cash in the Christmas spending, and take advantage of the tax cuts. The event should be renamed Mother Lily Filmfest hehehe.

Wam: I've been wanting to do an all-RF exhibit for the longest time now. Was planning to do something similar with the toykamera group. Arnell U. wanted to organise one as well. Maybe this time puede na tumulak.

o! game na toh! pag usapan natin sa party. ambagan nalang sa biogesic...hehehehe. in this case, shall we do enlarging or scanning nalang?

EXCITING! may i tag someone along at the party?...a potential convert...hehehehe. ok lang kung strictly for actual RF users lang. :)

ditoy,
thanks. i am still adjusting to the lack of parallax adjustment and the other idiosyncracies of the camera. the cv12 can be unwieldy, i hear. one needs a bubble for that, right? anyway, i am still enjoying my cv15. i will see how far i can push it.
sound supe ka pala. i am an audio enthusiast. but not much into home theater. i still play LPs and use vacuum tubes.
are you, by any chance, related to ernesto aguila as well? of aguila glass?

Re RF show, anything goes. I can supply the developer (paRodinal, wink wink :)) for anyone who needs it. Scan or print wet, its the shooter's choice.

Yes bring along anyone. Kailangan natin dumami. Still have to post this at the toykamera list.

4 FED-1 bodies arrived today

4 FED-1 bodies arrived today

Lahat defective. Three complete, one missing the pressure plate and plate springs. All look to be repairable. All need new shutter curtains (easy to do :p ).
No lenses. For some reason, the rf and vf optics of these cameras, despite their condition (they all look shabby, as if they've been stored at the back of some forgotten closet), are very clean. The rf windows of these cameras look contrasty and the golden secondary image is well defined. Much unlike the RFs found here, clean bodies but foggy windows and hardly visible rf images.

Must fix them (said in a zombie-like manner :D)

jay,
the other M3 levers i checked sprung back to original position after cocking. and, i figured that the M3s i saw were in need of CLA. hassle yun. except for the last one which cost HK$11,000.

wam,
your idea of photo exhibit is great. i have been planning to do that with 2 other photographers. we actually have a theme already -- lights and shadows. we will be playing with light, mostly low light. this was the reason why i was looking for fast films in hk. but it got stalled because one of the two sold all his rangefinders; he just gave up on photography. the exhibit was supposed to be held in my clinic. anyway, we have one item on the agenda for the xmas party.

The Xmas meet is looking good! Eddie, yes we are related but since the Aguilas don't have reunions I personally dont know him.

Talking about CLA, heard that Mike Santos of Picture City, Timog (Tel. 9269454) can do this to our lenses and rangefinders.

ed, i and ditoy share the same profession. while he does films, i do radio and tv commercials. i still collect LP's though i am not an audiophile. baka may MILES DAVIS=BITCHES BREW and BOB MARLEY=CATCH A FIRE (Zippo jacket) ka dyan that you would want to dispose off...akina! :p i need to get my amp working too!!!! i am also a session musician (percussion player).

shall we ask what each one does aside from photography, or sa party nalang? :D
