again...
my 35 has worked fine for a year +. It recently malfunctioned. I can only turn the film advance lever about 1/4 of the way before it stops. Pressing the shutter release makes a sound as if the shutter has fired, but doesn't actually do anything. Rewind button functions fine.
Any ideas? I hate to part with this camera after it has performed so nobly for me.

Yeah, I still use film...
Sounds like something came loose and jammed the mechanism. Is the window for the frame counter still there? I had one of those jam up a GT one time. No matter what, the top and bottom will have to come off to see what's what...

Suggest not forcing it. This is how I broke my Mamiya 7II. Can you sacrifice the film to see if its a tear or caused the jam? Maybe try to unload/reload that roll and watch what is happening.

When the camera malfunctioned I took the film out (maybe 2 weeks ago).

Then the only way to find out is to pop the top.
Actually, there are mechanisms under the top and the bottom that could cause a jam. The bottom is a lot easier to take off, so you could start there. You might get lucky...

You don't say what camera you have. In many cases it might cost more to get repared than to just get another one on ebay.

35 GSN. Yes, I've pretty much given up on this camera. I'm moving to South Korea in August so I'm looking for something newer- along the lines of a Bessa (or somebody's ******* Leica)- to document my travels!
