The film section at Yodobashi Camera in Shinjuku is pretty awesome. But I can get by on what's available at Yodobashi Camera in Yokohama. Here's a crappy cell phone shot of their film section.

This has to be the picture of the month for me. I reckon all the film in our photo labs over here (I'm in Singapore 🙂) wouldn't add up to a single shelve in the picture above.
I'll go nuts if I were over there in Japan. Like a kid in a candy store 😛

When I was last in Japan, nearly 20 years ago, every camera used film, so such a sight seemed so 'commercial'. Now, planning to return next year, such a sight seems so 'rational'.

The trick is to take just enough film to see you through the flight and the first day or two and then stock up there. I have a friend who picks up 50-60 rolls for me and I get them upon arrival. At the end of the trip I pick up some more and take it back. I also have friends like Zen-Shooter here on RF who goes to Japan, usually around this time or December and he fills his daughters diaper bag with film. We have to figure out something else when she gets older!

Better photos than when Playboy comes in the mail. I sure like to see all that Polaroid (Fuji) film, here is hoping that stays around. Tons of 120, too. Just great, thanks for posting, I'm going to have a good weekend now.

Geez... does this store ship films internationally?? This store resembles a candy store for my film camera and it is salivating to chew all those candy-sters. Yummy!

This shot must have been before I got there or they have re-stocked! It is a bit of a Nirvana for us Analog's. Here in vancouver they usually have a measly 10-20 rolls on display - usually of something you dont want.
Yodobashi has decent prices to - and they do run "specials' occasionally. Last time (March) they were selling Tmax 2-400 as 3 for the price of 2!!!!

Do any of you know a good japanese internet store to order film from? I'm in Switzerland and usually order from B&H but if the prices in Japan are better I might order from there.

I must admit that reading the replies in this thread, I feel lucky to live a few blocks from Freestyle, where there is actually a lot of different films and film related supplies at your fingertips. (though nothing like the posted pics)

What a beautiful site!!! I could spend hours in that store. Imagine coming out with shopping bags full from that shop.....mmmmmmmmmmmmm
The variety and availability is amazing but Japanese prices are probably a little higher than B&H, and most Japanese stores refuse to ship overseas anyway. You're better off buying from B&H.

Best solution is to get on flight to Narita, take the express train to Tokyo - go to Yodobashi - spend the day buying film and looking at cameras and gadgets - spend the next couple of days shooting it. Go back before the return flight and buy more film!
Tokyo is one of my favorite cities - like being stuck in huge PinBall machine - but great street shooting, plenty of camera stores and it is not as expensive as you think. Yes, if you want Western style hotels and breakfasts - it is pricey (but not more than London/New York). Basic "business" hotels are $80-$100/night, transit is cheap and super effective and people are among the nicest you can find anywhere.

The funny thing is, the film shelves of Adorama and B&H, combined, at their peak (up until, say, three or four years ago) couldn't hold a Bic lighter to this. I'm just lucky that I'm a subway stop away from getting most of the film I want, even though it isn't laid out, luxe-supermarket-style. 😉

I know Worthing doesn't have the glamour, the attraction, the Je ne sais quoi of Tokyo (surely you jest I hear you clamour 😛) -- ahem 😀 -- but the local place to me is an Aladdin's cave, mentioned it before on here, if you want film, paper, chemicals (colour and BW) they have it. It's nothing like these places in Tokyo inside (in fact it's a bit messy!) and you can't pick this stuff off the shelf, you ask the man at the counter, he taps uinto the computer and then goes out back to ferret around with the stock.
Yet to be disappointed what is only 800yds from my front door 🙂 Plus the prices are competitive, on occassion cheaper than the net, usually the same.

I've been to similar (but smaller) stores in Seoul. I was amazed... I wish there were stores like these outside Asia. I hate having to ask for film without knowing what's available.

Its no good in the rest of asia either, so its only Japan and Korea it seems that have it good for analog photographers ... oh well ... Japan has an aging population maybe they'll let us emigrate easily ???? 🙂
