Film Loading Original Electro

Hi All,

I recently took a gamble on a Y. Electro 35 and I have a quick question.

Do I open the back by lifting the film rewind knob? I have been trying this and the back does not open. Any thoughts?

The shutter gives a nice clunk sound when firing, but I am not seeing the shutters move at all (no battery yet).

Your Electro has a default speed of 1/500 with no battery. Try holding it up to a light-bulb (&c.) with the back open and aperature at f/1.7 you should see a blink of light.

Which brings us to the back - yes, you need to pull up on the rewind handle. If the foam has gone super-bad it might be acting as glue. Try pulling up on the lever and prising the door open.

It'll be a lovely camera once it is working.

It is the original Electro. I will try that at home tonight.

Other than a few nicks here and there, I hope that this camera is going to be a great user. I am not too worried about looks of the camera. The shots are all that matter to me.

FYI, the shutter is firing. Now I need to move to a battery solution. Should be able to shoot with it this weekend.

As the original Electro did not have gold contacts, don't be surprised if it is extremely dead when you get a battery in it. I have purchased at least 5 on ebay and they have all been DOA for this reason.

Well, hopefully this will not be the case with this one. 😉

I take it that it is too expensive to go in and repair the wiring?
