Not before Fuji stops the joke from a few years back on Velvia price tag here in EU...
(ok, seriously, Fuji, just keep making film (even at this price) and we're good...)

with currency wars in the air, the best thing might just be to buy film that is produced in your regional market.

Delta400 in 135/100ft from ¥9800 to ¥15800 while Kodak 's bulk-rolls (Tri-X and Tmax400-2) almost tripled in price, now at ¥35000.

Yikes! Glad I'm not living in Japan. Time for a clever film camera maker to bring back half frame perhaps? Mr. Kobayashi are you reading this forum?

Did the math; you'd be paying ~$14 USD per roll for the Kodak. To roll it yourself. Uhhhhhhhhhhh, no. It's not worth it to shoot it at that price. At least, it wouldn't be for me...

Ouch-and I thought Ilford Delta 400 was expensive at €5,40/$5,80 a roll...

Wow, that's quite the price increase. I wonder if places like B&H will see an increase in international film orders as a result? A quick look at their website shows T-Max films for $5/36exp and Delta about a dollar more. Shipping probably won't be cheap, but wonder if it might be worthwhile for a larger order or a group buy, etc.?

I'm lucky, that I found this thread as I'm going to Japan in a few weeks. I think, I better bring my own film, instead of buying at Bic Camera in Tokyo, what was, what I planned before... It's much cheaper here in Germany. Thanks for the head up!
Yikes
I was just looking through a Yodobashi Camera film and photographic paper catalogue from 2004... so cheap and so much choice :bang:

I actually order from from Fotoimpex because as a resident in Japan I don`t pay the 19% VAT and shipping is maybe half of that what Freestyle or B&H charge. This way I got 3x 100ft rolls of Tmax400-2 (expired but no problem) including shipping and inport fees to Japan for the same price as one 100ft roll at Yodobashi (or elsewhere in Japan).
The only problem is that also prices for paper (except for Fuji) doubled at April 1st (no joke) and shipping paper is from abroad is quite expensive due to the weight.
I know for sure what I am going to do during my next business-trips to the US ....

Interesting option.
Yeah I know what I am buying the next time I visit home. Until then I might just start pushing ACROS

Over the past few years the film shelf at Bic in Sapporo disappeared, and they only keep a couple rolls behind the register now. The film shelf at Yodobashi is tiny now.

This is very sad...
Japan was the Mecca of film photography which meant lots of Exhibitions / Galleries and film clubs etc. By increasing film prices to this extent - it is going to have an effect on the whole film culture without a doubt. Less film shooters - less clubs - less exhibitions etc

There could be one tremendous outcome from putting Kodak and Ilford out of reach: Fuji bringing back their 400 and 1600. PRESTO

That might be a good option. I've been using Freestyle because I like the Artista prices, but there isn't a lot of choice left--just the re-branded Foma.
So you basically pay the Fotoimpex "Netto" prices plus shipping?
I'm getting ready to make another bulk order in the next couple of weeks.

I pay the Fotoimpex "Netto" prices plus shipping plus import fees (to Japan).

Aren't we exempt the import fees as long as it totals less than 20,000 yen? Maybe my info is dated.

That might be and also in case of optics. I was a little over last time but don`t remember if they actually charged me ...
