Japan was the Mecca of film photography
The new secret is that Mecca has moved...

Yes, but why bulk? 20 fresh T-Max 100/400 135/36exp. rolls have actually been cheaper than bulk roll for quite a while now in EU.I actually order from from Fotoimpex because as a resident in Japan I don`t pay the 19% VAT and shipping is maybe half of that what Freestyle or B&H charge. This way I got 3x 100ft rolls of Tmax400-2 (expired but no problem) including shipping and inport fees to Japan for the same price as one 100ft roll at Yodobashi (or elsewhere in Japan).

For Kodak - individual cartridges are also now much cheaper in Japan than bulk which I don't understand. Having said that, it is still outrageously expensive I think.
TriX 135-36 would set you back about 8USD now. In the US you'll get the same for 5... That's quite a difference.
Bulk is fun / less waste / less recycling and variable length films - very good for testing.
But more than anything - it's just fun!
Of course I'd never buy it if it was more expensive than regular 36exp cartridges.... I buy film from overseas too and bulk has been cheaper.

I was just looking through a Yodobashi Camera film and photographic paper catalogue from 2004... so cheap and so much choice :bang:
Got a link? I'm really curious

For people living in Japan: for your orders of film and chemicals check out silversalt.jp, they have some good stuff.

Buying standard film cartridges is a waste of resources if not properly recycled and b) takes up an enormous space in the freezer/fridge. I mostly use IXMOO/FILCA/Nikon film canister except when traveling overseas or in case I want DX coding. Then I load already used film canister with the proper DX coding.

Its a paper catalogue, not something online. To give you an idea what it looks like, here's a few quick iphone snaps of it.

Well its April 1st and Ilford film in Japan just doubled in price. Delta 400, my favorite film is now ¥1200...
Funny April fools gag guys, now put the real price tag back on
I had to google that. Almost 9,28 €. One roll of Delta 400 is about 5,50 € over here if you buy a pack of ten.

Strangely, this seems to be true. We don't have such a great film photography culture, but prices are okay. Maybe the culture will develop around it.
