Speaking of lenses, though, I find that the Nikon lenses that I've bought ( all from KEH ) for my Nikon have been relatively inexpensive. I could never have afforded them back in the day.

This is what got me into photography, except instead of cheap estate sales it was perfectly good Nikon gear gathering dust in my parents' closet. After a new battery and one roll of film I was getting shots I had never dreamed of with my lousy digital P&S. Now all my aunts and uncles who've gone digital are throwing their old film gear at me.One nice byproduct of this is that it is very easy and cheap to get young people who are interested in 'old fashioned' photography a decent camera. And they are quite shocked how good the pictures can be.
I found a Canon AE-1 with Tokina 28mm at Goodwill for $50, gave it to my girlfriend.

Leica MP new in box with new in box Noctilux at the local thriftstore for $10. But they had a half-price sale and I got it for $5. I swear!![]()
I guess there really are Goodwill Leicas out there huh?

At $5.00 it's bit more than just Goodwill
More like some sort of sign from above ...

Yes they can be a good deal, at least the models that were very popular and made in large quantities. Of course there are plenty of rare or simply sought after models that command serious money, e.g. Alpa's.
Even relatively common stuff often goes for silly high prices today. I've always wanted a Canon New F1, but they still sell for over $300 for a body alone. Seems rather high for a body from a dead system.

I got my F1N for $297 including the AE motor drive and plain prism. Not sure it was a real bargain, but it's a very nice camera!

Was that an F-1N (1976) or a New F-1 (1981)? They are different cameras (with a poorly thought-out naming scheme).I got my F1N for $297 including the AE motor drive and plain prism. Not sure it was a real bargain, but it's a very nice camera!

Mike, to refine the theology even more, the 1976 Canon rehab was, I believe, the F1n -- ie, small n. So to make matters worse you'll sometimes see the New F1 referred to as F1N capital N. Fortunately the New F1 looks immediately different, having that grip on the front that the subsequent A1, AE1, etc all shared. I have the F1n. It's a great camera, though it might be the loudest SLR I own.

You are, indeed, correct. What a wonderful choice of names! Makes me think "M" mmmmm.....Mike, to refine the theology even more, the 1976 Canon rehab was, I believe, the F1n -- ie, small n.

P.S. I have a New F-1. I like it. It is a heavy beast, though.

The New F1 was 'subsequent' to both the A-1 and the AE-1.

Canon really takes the biscuit for logical names: FD lenses that won't fit their digital cameras, an EF camera that can't mount EF lenses, model numbers D30 and 30D (along with D60 and 60D) and probably a bunch more that haven't occurred to me yet.The New F1 was 'subsequent' to both the A-1 and the AE-1.![]()

This seems to border on the absurd. My first thought was to get my waders on because the BS was getting REAL DEEP, FAST!!
I have never known anyone who held a Noctilux (especially one new in the box) who did not recognize that they were holding something of value (even the most uninitiated) & would at least seek a dealers opinion as to its value. But, if the OP says that is the facts in this case I will except his word on this (with one eye open keeping an eye on this).

Yeah, film SLR's can be ridiculously cheap these days - too bad I don't really care for them anymore.
Regarding RF's: While al lot M and LTM mount related stuff (even Russian) is going up in prices, there are also some RF bargains. There are good deals for the Kodak Retina series right now, for instance. Only half the prices on ebay compared to 3-4 years ago...
