Filter is stuck...

So my DR Summicron cam with a filter on it, and I told myself I'd keep it on the lens until I received my new lens hood. Well I received the lens hood today, but upon trying to remove the filter, I couldn't. It used to come of just fine. Would any of you have any advice as to how I might be able to remove the lens hood without breaking the lens/scratching the glass elements?

Try pushing down on a mouse pad and turning it ... maybe give it a few gentle taps around the edge first with a knife handle or something similar.

The mouse pad idea seem like it might help. I'll try it out and see what happens. Thanks!

Press down on the sole of a hard rubber shoe and turn that normaly does the trick

I use a strip of rubber about 2mm thick. Sometimes changing grip helps. Sometimes the filter starts releasing just as I'm about to give up and have partially released my grip.

If a filter wrench doesn't work, try a strap wrench available at most hardware stores.

Try grasping one edge of the filter between thumb and index finger and turn anticlockwise. Do not ask your wife which way that is.
