Someone recently gave me an old filter set. It is a Kodak Polycontrast filter kit Model A. It comes with a filter holder and filters 1 thorough 4 in half steps. I was actually about to buy a set of ilford multigrade filters to use on multigrade paper. Will this filter set do the trick? Do I need to buy multigrade filters or is this more or less the same thing?
Thanks,
Oren

The original sales literature probably said that you need _their_ filters for _their_ paper. In reality, they should be interchangeable -- the one complication that I have experienced is that some of the Kodak filters out there are really, really old, and do fade over the decades. Hence, my suggestion would be to test them, but if things don't "seem right" then just get a new set of Ilford filters (given that Kodak paper is no longer available)..
