Both are 40.5 mm if I'm not mistaken.

40.5mm. Depending on the vintage of the lens, Industar and Jupiter lenses used a different pitch thread in their filter mounts. The earlier ones used a .5mm pitch. The later ones, .75mm, which is also the thread pitch of commonly available filters.
Should you have one of the earlier lenses, try not to force a Western, Japanese, or contemporary filter in- the threads in either filter or lens might be stripped. You can tell if the pitches in the filter and lens threads differ- mounting the filter will feel tight or loose...but more often tight if there's a mismatch.

what do you mean by "vintage"? is my 57 lens an "earlier" or "later" lens?

Those would likely have the 0,5 mm thread pitch.

Thanks for that info, Jay! Now I understand why a one of the lenses I have won't easily take the filters/hoods I have. I kept trying to see where the filter ring was damaged and couldn't find anything obvious. And the lens is '52 or '53 which I guess is "earlier" and my filters/hoods must be "later".ZorkiKat said:40.5mm.
