looking forward to samples taken with these lenses, the LTM 50/1.5 Nokton is one of my fav 50s, this new one with the closer mfd and more compact design is very tempting.
i wonder if this new version won't have as much "bullseye/onion rings" effect as the LTM... like the v2 35/1.2 vs the v1

One arrived this morning. Now on a camera and ready for trials. Feels very good in the hand. The heavy scalloped focussing ring works very well, quick "snap" of focus - and as the aperture ring faces backwards - you can see the f-stops in the finder (at least on my 0.58 M's). Performance should be the same as the LTM version -i.e very good. Same aspherical set up as the LTM (two aspherical surfaces on one element!!!).
I will do some comperative size shots later with various 50f1.4's and f1.5's.

The new 50mm Nokton M-mount f1.5 compared sizewise to the older LTM version. The unusual knurling of the new lens works very well. Takes a couple of shots to get the "grip" - but it allows a very fast "spin" from 0.7m to infinity. Aperture ring is nice and easily shifted - and you can see the aperture in the finder of a 0.58 M finder (not clearly but you can at least get the idea).
I always liked the scalloped style of knurling - much more grippable than the smooth knurling that is popular at the moment.

Size comparison between the new M-Nokton and a Summilux 50f1.4 vII. The old LTM Nokton was a better lens than the Summilux and I cant really see any difference in performance between the new M Nokton and the older LTM version - so still a Summilux vII beater. I will do some trials against the Asph Summilux later. The new M-Nokton also focusses down to 0.7 m which is a nice additional feature.
The Summilux does look a bit worse for wear. The former owner managed to drop it, not once, but twice and the filter ring is a bit crunched up - enough so that I am reluctant to try to straighten it out as the thin alloy can break. Oh , not a lens for using filters on evidently.

It looks like the hood on the new one would block more of the frame lines than the old, but without the hood, the new would block less of the frame lines. Can you confirm this supposition? Also, any idea as to the flare resistance of the new lens without the hood?

I couldn't help myself and sprung for the chrome one. It was the .7 close focus distance and modern contrast rendering, that will add something in a single lens that my 50 DR and 50 Sonnar don't.

I have only shot about 3 rolls with the new M-Nokton- all on a 0.58 camera. No problem with the hood blocking at all.
I agree, the chrome version looks better - almost like it is sculpted out of steel. I had a choice and decided on a black one for now. The chrome one on a M3 or M2 looks pretty awesome.

I tried the 50 ASPH a little while ago, and found the contrast and tonal rendering of the 50 Sonnar more to my liking. I know some will think that blasphemy. i think this new Nokton will have contrast more like the Sonnar and focus close like the DR in normal mode, and be so pretty doing it. And it will be a good investment like my silver 35 f1.2 Nokton.

Very little obstruction - you can see the edge of the hood and a small part of the front of the barrel - but it is outside of the framelines.

A shot with the new M-Nokton 50f1.5. How sharp do you need your 50 to be? This is Joe's BMW 635 - one of the best designs from BMW (only surpassed by the 507). Before it got "Bangled" - rivals the Mercedes 280/300 Coupes in looks.
M6 Millennium, Acros 100, Beutler and the M-mount Nokton 50f1.5 - probably around f4 or 5.6.
