Well according to this rumor or rather several rumors in one post.
- Fuji been using the Sony sensors and is waiting to get the new one that is on the a7 family. But Sony is does not release it to others until 6 months after they have used it.
- the x200 looks like the first ff followed by the xpro version, but given this info, no one is sure if this will end up late 2014 or early 2015 now
- also part of this rumor is new lens roadmap that has weather sealed lenses and a constant 2.8 zoom. Which makes one wonder if they are going to announce an apsc version of the xp1 in first half of 2014 which is weather sealed and bring out a new family designation for the ff camera line. If they are using Sony, could they be putting the 24mp sensor on the xp2 then?
- on the other hand 2015 timeframe could also be the right time for that organic sensor that they have been working on w/ Panasonic.

Interesting times 😀

Seems now officially APS-C will be for chicks and FF for us real photogs 😀 Interesting times, indeed.

I'm choosing not to believe the Sony part of this rumor. Why would Fuji invest so much in the X-trans sensor tech and then wash it out to use Sony bayer technology?
But you are right... interesting times.

Could be that Sony is their fab house anyway for all we know and the xtran array is put on the sensor during the normal manufacturing process.. I am familiar w/ how in general different companies work in terms of making use of their excessive manufacturing capacity. Sensor manufacturing and how the various filters are applied... Know nothing about it.

so…sell all my fuji gear now and wait for the full frame to appear?

i'm a bit disappointed and excited at the same time. i thought fuji might resist the ff temptation and just keep improving it's current line up.
i'm tempted to sell the fuji gear and just get the damn sony rx1r and be done with it all…one lens and keep life simple...

I wonder if the current X lenses will perform on a FF sensor....

When the RX1 was first announced... During a news conference, one of the Fuji product managers let slip when a reporter was haggling him that some of the existing lenses may be ok w/ full frame.

A lot depends on the size of the image circle though. Maybe some vignetting, but I would suspect that worst cases is like Nikon dx vs fx mode will be enforced. Isn't Sony a7 family going to use that approach w/ the Nex e mount lenses vs the dslr a mount lenses which will get the ff as if it was the new ff e mount lens.

Good point.

I do hope that Fuji brings a ff xtrans camera. For my purpose a fixed lens would be great.
They have come such a long ways and through so much criticism and "teething" with this platform.
It seems central to their continued user loyalty to stay the course. again that's just my opinion 🙂

Why.. Does your photograhy really need ff? Mine doesn't, that is why I never really jumped on the rx1 or d600..etc.

If I get the new ff it will be more or less for the other improvements and the upgrade path. I may not sure about buying the new af lenses.

Anyway, I am happy to let all this play out for a while. Between what I have in Fuji, sigma, olympus, and Ricoh, I am perfectly happy.

Gary

Ps. Unless of course.. The proverbial GAS gets to me 🙁 because someone posted a lovely picture from a ff camera using a 21 or 24 f2.8 Leica... But even then I kind of doubt it.

my photography does not need ff…

i don't know why but my initial reaction to this rumour is annoyance at fuji!

A FF fixed lens camera from Fuji makes sense, but given that a FF interchangeable lens camera would require an entirely new lineup of lenses, I don't think it is in the cards for 2014. I just don't think Fuji has the resources.

I think all this upcoming FF stuff is great also because barely used APS-C kits will hit the market.

If the ff Fuju had an x-trans ff sensor, I would be very interested. But if it has just the standard Sony 24 Mp Bayer sensor, I'll pass.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out that some of the XF lenses work on FF. There was that interview a couple of years back when Fuji execs suggested as much, but then quickly issued denials.

But to be honest, I think the more important issue for me is whether or not they keep the hard-button controls, the OVF, and improve that and the EVF?

I was also hoping that Fuji would continue to develop a really new and innovative manual focusing system for the digital age, as well as new alternative sensors.

Compared to these issues, full frame just doesn't seem that important to me.

I love fuji cameras and love what they did with the X series, X100 and X100s was the most fun camera I had, likewise the X-Pro1

alas I sold all my Fuji gears because I decided to finally get an M9 but I'm also keeping my eyes off the X200 and X-Pro2 announcement, ready to march to The Camera Store and pre-order one

yeah it seems to be all mixed opinions.
the guy I traded my X-Pro1 for his M9 told me that according to the guy working at TCS the Fuji lens will work on FF but until Fuji officially confirms it, it is just all speculations

kind of disappointing to be honest, i thought Fuji would be all committed to APS-C. i'm not sure if the image improvement will be worth it considering the larger cameras, lenses and having to create a whole new lens lineup. i'd rather they put one of the newer APS-C 24MP phase detection sensors instead.

I agree that Fuji is unlikely to ditch the xtrans sensor...it's great and has given them a leg up on all CMOS APC competitors. Why wouldn't they do the same thing with the FF? Maybe this means we see it later, but it will be better when we see it.

My credit card is groaning, but I am suffering from heart palpitations at the thought of an XproFF !!!

I doubt that they are stopping development of their apsc line. Nikon did not when they released their fx line, why should Fuji be any different here.

I was cured of the 'bigger is better' bug by the 1" 20 mega-pixel sensor in my Sony RX100M2. The sensor is capable of phenomenal images when the lens is in it's optimum range.
I would love to see a 24-30 mega-pixel APS-C sensor in an X-mount body, and have no desire for the inevitable size, weight, and cost of lenses for a FF system.

Agreed; as I just posted in another thread, the D3 was the be-all-end-all of DSLRs for me, and the full-frame cured my lust for wide-angle and lowlight. But these days the small sensors do wonders with high ISO and it seems there's a decent wide/superwide selection out there.
The notion of a full-frame, fixed lens camera sounds like a case of diminishing returns for the presumable size/price increase.
Then again, I haven't taken a good look at the RX1.
