If I'm reading this correctly, I collapse the lens, remove the two screws, then the top portion (aperture ring) should unscrew? From there I'm able to clean the area with lighter fluid, re-grease, then reassemble.
I want to ensure I'm reading this correctly before I attempt to dismantle this lens.

I'm happy I discovered this thread. My 1950 10-blade Summitar has been having a truant aperture ring since I got it, mainly in cold weather. Following Victor's excellent description I cleaned the surfaces with lighter fluid and the ring works very smoothly now. I didn't have any synthetic grease so we'll see for how long it works. The two q-tips I used did get a bit dark but not that much so the tolerances must be pretty tight in this lens.
