Thanks, Phil. The Steinheil Cassarit 50/2.8 lens does not seem to be very highly regarded on the internet, but from these photos I can't say that I understand why. I do need to find a hood for it (I probably have the proper adapter somewhere), but to my eye it seems quite sharp, and rendered both black and white films nicely. That is not saying that I would not like to find a Xenar or Sonnar in Braun thread mount, though, but until I do, I am quite satisfied with this lens. The little camera is a joy to use, and the rangefinder seems accurate if lacking a little in contrast. It's not really a full double-stroke to advance, more like a stroke and 2/3, but that first full stroke is a long one, and the strap can interfere with it if it is not kept out of the way. The shutter release is feather light and easy to release by accident, so I tried not to advance the film until I was ready to shoot. I metered the black and white set using the iPhone light-meter app, but on the color set, I just set the aperture to f8 and shutter speed to 125 and let her rip, as I was in constant bright sun by that time.

Could have gone to f11 or f16 on the color.

I was estimating 10 year expired 100ASA film at 50ASA. Maybe f11 would have been OK, but I think that f16 would have been underexposed, and I would prefer to err over than under.

Very nice results, especially taking account of the age of the film, and useful review of the camera.

I missed that part about it being old film, Mike. I think one stop-per-decade is the standard.

I'm amused that some wag painted "Lionel" on the plate-girder RR bridge. Is it still used for trains?

You mentioned "Super II" - I assume this is the screw-mount interchangeable-lens Paxette ?

Would love to see some pics with fresh film...

The railroad right of way is now used as a bicycle path. The "Lionel" was painted as a prank in the mid 60's by a group of high school students, but has been maintained by the park district since. The Braun Super II and the Super Paxette are the same, with interchangeable 39mm screw-mount lenses. The lenses are not compatible with LTM bodies without modification, though. And the B&W shots are on fresh Kodak BW400CN.
