First photos with FED-3

Received my first FED-3 from Estonia about a week ago; after adjusting rangefinder and shooting a test roll, went out this weekend and purposefully shot first images with the new toy. I said in a previous post I hoped this wasn't the start of a new addiction. Afraid, that was a pipe dream. I find myself wandering to the web, looking for FED auctions; dreaming of Industar 28mm lenses. Oh, help me, help me! (Not really)

Here's some images from the first shoot. I had them processed and scanned at a local chain drugstore, so scans probably aren't as good as they could be. But I think they came out pretty good. Let me know what you think.

I'm hoping to score a FED 2c or d someday. Good looking results, Andrew, but you forgot to mention which lens was on your camera. I'm thinking it came with an I-26M with the big knurled focusing ring. Then again you could have gotten lucky, and it was supplied with a Jupiter-8.

Just keep patient & when I'm able I'll send you mine. I was hoping to get to go to back to work next week but that isn't looking to good because I'm still not able to do any lifting over 10lbs. I think you can replace the curtains. I can't work on these cameras. My eyes wont let me. It's a beautiful camera. Of course if you want to come down the mountain then come on. I'll meet you somewhere.😀

BTW I'm keeping the lens & meter. 😀

Thanks. The camera came with the Industar N-61 53mm f2.8 lens. It's very clean and the focus is smooth, which I read somewhere is sometimes a problem, due to age and lubricants turning to gunk. Overall, I'm very happy and am probably going to go bankrupt buying more FSU cameras (Doh!).

It proves to me (yet again) that in a lot of cases, what we need is not newer technologies, but willing subjects and the motivation to use what we already have.

Andrew, you have a good eye.

The Fed3 is a great camera to take everywhere. Simple, simple, simple and surprisingly reliable. I also find that the criminals have little interest in it, especially if its clearly a film camera. But, as Roger said above, its not just the gear...you are the photographer and the image doesn't happen without you.

I'm guessing we'll see more of you around here...

That's okay, Greg. I've got an I-26M lever focus, and my original I-22 that I recently cleaned up to use on it.

I'll drop you a PM so we can exchange phone numbers.

Nice results ABrosig, looks like it's working well. You're right about the Industar 61 usually needing attention so you got lucky on that (not that it's hard to remedy). If it's the I-61, I'd guess the camera is the 3b (lever wind)? They're a competent and under-rated camera.

Don't worry too much about FSU addiction, at least it's cheaper than Leica-gear addiction! Or most other makes, come to that.

Thanks to all for the kind comments and taking the time to view my work. I've been digital for so long (for work) that getting back to the basic tech of our craft is a refreshing change of pace. I'm really looking forward to getting more involved in RFF. From what I've seen so far, we have some very talented shooters here, from all over the world.

I'm glad you are enjoying your FED 3. I got to use one I borrowed from a coworker over the weekend. This was my first time using a FSU camera, and I have to say that I'm very favorably impressed. It was better built and handled considerably better than I had ever expected, but it's also in nearly new condition, too, so that may have something to do with it.

If I wasn't in the process of paring down my camera collection I would definitely put one on my "need to get" list.
