First roll through my new Contax G1

If your G1 has the green label (in the film chamber), you can go for the 21mm (with finder). This is my favorite lens, with the 45mm coming next. With regards to the 35mm, you will also require the green label to use it as well.

The G1/G2 has remained as pretty much the only film system that I haven't used yet, but have a real desire to try out.

I've talked myself out of at least one, and made more "sensible" choices, but the desire still remains, this thread is reminding me exactly why!

Don't hesitate! It's a very capable and quick shooter.

Good work, John (as usual, I should say), and I'll add my $.02 on the 90. Inexpensive, small, and reliable for AF. (Bonus: with adapters, the G lenses are good on m43, Aps, and FF.)

Enjoy your G!

Second Roll. A few dramas as the film didn't rewind back in. I'm just wondering if my home loaded film with sticky tape joining the bulk film to the cassette leader stopping it from auto rewinding. Had to remove it in a change bag. Next film will tell.

Delta 100 this time.

Excellent work John. Beware - the g glass is magnetic...it attracts other fine G optics.

I like my G1's ergos. though my G2 with the correct focus technique is reputedly more accurate.
Of the lenses - all stellar. the 90 sonnar is extraordinary value for its output. 21mm is pricey but amazing, 28mm a very nice wide to your class leading 45mm. 35mm said to be the "worst". if that is as bad as it gets I am pretty impressed.

Have fun and keep posting.

My Minolta MultiScan Pro died about 6 months ago and though I will have to replace it at some time (Plustek 120?), I am using a friends old CanoScan FS2710. It's proving to be quite capable and perfect for web sized images.

Hi John, if your Multiscan won't boot in firewire mode, try it in scsi mode or vice versa. Seems to be a not too uncommon problem.

Some nice shots!

Hi Greg,

Yep tried all that. It always booted but just made weird noises and in the end nothing at all.

Thanks anyway 🙂

That's a shame. I have the service manual in .pdf if you want to have a fiddle with it.
It's not comprehensive but may help give you an idea of what is actually wrong with it.

Lovely shots John.

My first foray into Rf'dom was the G1 and I was equally blown away by the 45 f2 as well as the speed and accuracy of the autofocus, looking back it reminds me of the snap of the Hexar AF. Unfortunately I couldn't get to grips with the moving frame once focus locked - it just threw me every time so I ended up moving on...shame as I'd have loved to try some more lenses from the range.
