Lovely cameras, Helen & Sug! I enjoy shooting with my IIIc very much - in fact much more than scanning the negatives.. But these earlier, simpler and blacker cameras are so tempting! As are the summars! I am using the Canon 50/1.8 lens which is fine and draws very prettily, but I'd like sometimes to attach "something collapsible" and to put the leica in my greatcoat pocket. But I think perhaps an Elmar might do the trick as well and be a "safer buy"...

First time with a Barnack. There will surely be a second "time". And a third. A fourth? Likely. And beyond.
Last year, I took a family portrait of my Barnacks. Yesterday, I did another, and there are two (or three?) more than there were last year. This can happen to you. Let this be a warning.

That's just one short of a round dozen.. good excuse to get another.. a IIIg?
Unless of course you were using number 12 to take the shot

Leica #12 would be the M3, but it's not a Barnack. There's a IIIg in the family photo- front left. I won't be getting more...

Nice snag Sug, looks great. A nice little Red Scale Elmar might be perfect on that body!

Crappy cell phone shot doesn't do justice, but 1932 II finally arrived. Summar is definitely user-ugly grade, but it came as a "body cap" to the II so I'll just have some fun with it.
As for the body, VF is clear, RF surprisingly contrasty (better than many IIIfs I've seen, but my IIIf still beats all in RF contrasty dept) for 78 years young, Shutter curtains smooth and flat, not even a chip in vulcanite. I wasn't sure how the added sync would look, but to my surprise, it doesn't look half as bad as I thought it would be. It's fitted professionally and aged well with body together.

Kent,
I have an excellent copy of Black scale, but I must say Nickel uncoated Elmar would look just right on this early II which also sports Nickel plated hardware. I hope I can find a good condition copy one day...

Richard,
That looks to be in nice condition - great combo!
I have some good news too - in the words of the song "My baby's coming back" - my beloved black & nickel II is coming home after having an extended "holiday" with another member here. This is the first camera I have loved enough to buy it back when the opportunity presented itself. (pics will follow shortly)
Odd how these black Barnacks grab you isn't it?
Now, who wants a fully CLA'd Fed 1g ?

semrich, that's beautiful...
Where are you guys finding all of these beautiful Leica II specimens? I don't see them for sale really except at inflated prices on ebay.

John, not so odd after you hold one in your hand, small, hefty, and I've got some of my best shots with that lens.
jsrockit, I got this at KEH, I would stop by their site from time to time looking for one to match up with my Nickel lens and one day I lucked out. I might have paid an inflated price, I don't know, it didn't matter once I took it out of the box.
Helen, thanks for the compliment. If I was going to show this here I wanted to "do it up" as the saying goes, so I set in on one of my Ara Guler books (i used my 5cm 3.5 Nickel Elmar and IIIf to take his portrait that I just posted in the LTM thread) He is 82 now, the Black II is 80 years old, and the Elmar is 76 years old, somehow I thought it would be a fitting background.
digitalintrigue, trust me it is real, I'll have it checked by my local repair guy tomorrow, though it hasn't stopped me from using it with a trial roll that I intend to develop soon.
