Does anybody have any information on a decent wide angle - fisheye lense in a M mount or LTM? I don't want the lense to be corrective.

As far as I know-none, but of course there might be some exotics out there. It seems to me that it might not be the most practical thing in the world for a RF - A SLR is far more suitable.

IIRC none indeed. But you can stick a M42 wide angle lens on your M camera by way of using an M42-LTM adapter stuck onto an LTM-M adapter. I did that and it works. But financially you're better off buying just any old film SLR and get some cheap wide angle for that.

I'm with the suggestion of finding an inexpensive SLR and hanging a Peleng 8mm fisheye on it. Nikkormats with dead meters can be had all day long for not much more than loose change; the Peleng is a decent enough fisheye...if you want a full frame fisheye there's that Zenit 16mm lens...

Would you trust your infinity setting on that combo Remy? But then, a fisheye has an acceptable DOF 😉

That will be the problem.

A larger DOF means more critical to the distance to the film plane

the cone of light has a larger angle; which in effect creates the larger DOF.
but this means only a slight little bit of error in the film plane and all (thanks to the large DOF) will be out of focus.

Well, to be fair, I don't recommend using the mentioned setup. 🙂 I've done so and it's dang difficult even to scale focus. I guess mad_boy's explanation might just be right on the nose.

Get the Peleng (either 8mm or 16mm) and stick it to an old SLR. That should do the trick.

What about the 15mm f/8 Hologon? Isn't that a fisheye, or is that just another corrected super-wide?

It is a 16mm, BTW. A corrected super wide.

I have an adapter that allows me to mount my Contax slr lenses on my Contax G2. I have been shooting recently with the Zenitar 16 2.8 full frame fisheye, using the Hologon viewfinder for approxmate view. Works quite nicely.

I also use the Zenitar, and found it a lot of fun to shoot. I have not had a problem with OOF images, but I use it with a Canon F-1N, and just rough in the focus fast.

This lens is around $100... which means you CAN play with it, and not have to mortgage the farm to buy it. It seems to be very adequate in both sharpness and contrast, and the color rendition is pleasant. A nice buy for the money. Mine has a standard Pentax screw mount, and I use it with the Canon Adapter P.

Just a thought, what about adapting this to the Canon 7s, or the Leica M3 with an appropriate adapter? Anyone try this? No real need for a finder... just hold the camera straight and level, and figure WIDE, BABY, WIDE.... 180 deg. wide.

Might be a project for the weekend...
