Hi Gang.
Have a shutter with broken ribbons and another about to go. Ribbon replacment I have not done before. KSS suggests model aeroplane dope for the ends of the ribbon for easy threading. Any alternatives ? for instance clear nail polish.
I tried some instant glue but its too stiff and thick.

Thanks

Ron, I have carefully placed a flame close to the ends of the ribbon to seal it. Not getting it hot enough to burn, but just to soften enough so that I can seal the ends. Once is is warm I press with my fingers to make sure the ends are as flat as possible. The pic below shows what it looks like when I'm done. Let us know how well nail polish works if you try it...

I have some spare curtain assembly (curtains+ribbons already attached), not sure they are good, I bought some of them times ago... you know, just in case it may be of your interest..

Thanks Peter and Roberto.
Peter what a great idea !. Why didnt I think of it. Use same technique for ski rope and nylon ropes on the farm. Will let u know as its what I will try first. Dope is hard to get here so bought some quick drying balsa wood glue. will try the heat first.
Roberto many thanks if I need some will be in touch tho I have two spare shutter assemblies somebody else may have a greater need.
A test of nail polish seems ok.
