Five Thousand Days...

Well, this book was waiting on my doorstep before. So, for the last 90mins or so I've was so occupied that I didn't even take off my watch, put the keys and mobile down on my desk.

Worth every cents of AU$60 I spent on it. Daily Life and Arts & Entertainment chapters are the best of all but the rest are still breathtaking.

I think it's time for me to delete the junks I posted.

Kris,
I for one find the smiles in the photo's that you post very refreshing. Adds a little brightness. They would also grace the portfolio of any professional photographer OR model giving references.

Jorge: Remove Kris's Delete Privilige...

I must get a copy! If what Kris said is true, I think I should delete all my photo postings too!

Ay ay ay I see myself after more books now! Just received yesterday the copies of 'On being a photographer' and 'Letting go of the camera'. Started to read the former, some great things written down there.

Jorge, I second Brian's request.

This is on my list.

For good books of photography, the National Geographic books Through the Lens and In Focus are both heavily discounted now.

Peter! Don't put us through that AGAIN!!! NO DELETING!!!

Books are to help us improve, not just fill us with self-doubt.

Put Walther Benser on you reading list.

I guess there is this compulsion in most photogs to destroy their prints and negatives when they realised their work is so unworthy in comparison to the Masters. In fact a local painter burnt almost all his work before he died! That I call art! The very act of destroying your own creation!

The painter burnt his work because he felt they are not good enough. What a tragic and beautiful scene with the paintings going up in flames, the painter tearing the remaining work in front of the bon fire! I remember it well as it was shown as a documentary.

Five Thousand Days is on my list too. I got four new books over the Holidays; Robert Capa: The Definitive Collection (excellent), Women In Medicine by Ted Grant & Sandy Carter (very good except that I think most of the pictures that Peter posts here could easily replace many of the images in the book), Sahel by Sebastião Salgado (heartrending), and Digging by Michael Hintlian (sensational book about the huge tunnel/bridge project that is reshaping the center of Boston - Hintlian is a brilliant photog). Most of the images in these books were taken by Leica RF cameras.

I just bought "In Focus" from a B. Dalton Bookstore at half price; $15 US. It's worth every penny too. I only wish they had included more information about the equipment used but that's just the gearhead in me coming to the surface.

The pictures, though, are wonderful.

Just this weekend I saw a book on Imogen Cunningham (a Bulfinch production) discounted at 13 euros. I was severely tempted to get it but, alas, I'm stone broke. I really hope it'll still be there in a week and a half time. Maybe I should ask the shopkeeper to keep a copy seperate for me....
