Well, what do you want to know? Early in the TLR history there were TLR folders (Welta Perfekta and Superfekta). The reflex mechanism made them rather big after folding, and like all other attempts at different TLR types and shapes they were eventually displaced by the cheaper, less complex and more reliable Rolleiflex type TLRs.

I think it should read "Folder or TLR".

Folders when I am away on business trips for some shots in between, TLR when I am on vacation or other occasions where I have more space in my luggage and more time to photograph.

Folder because it is small, tlr because of the viewfinder.

Folders tend to be less precise than TLR. Focus-wise, TLR will focus better and more consistently. Because of the collapsing nature of the folder camera, precision is often compromised.

I suppose the reason behind starting a thread like this is that i tend to get better results (more contrasty, better sharpness, better overall tones) from my "lesser" Nettar model than the Ikoflex TLR. But since "better" and "worst" are highly subjective terms, i would like to hear your preferences about how those type of cameras compare.

I really like the folding camera much more than the twin-lens reflex.

I just feel more comfortable using them. So far, I haven't had any problems with film flatness in my folders. Or at least, I haven't noticed any.

I'm also a fan of the humble box camera for certain occasions.

I prefer a folder - couldn't get on with the 'back-to-front-edness' of a TLR viewfinder, although I wish I could...

After having trouble with color film on a few folders (red window leaks), I stick with TLRs for more sensitive films. Folders are more compact and get a different reaction out of people. Folders also have the risk of bellow issues.

Beyond that, there isnt really a difference to me. Both can take great shots and pair nicely with a small rangefinder in a bag.

I prefer a TLR. I like to look down to the viewfinder and I like the way you can easily shoot from a lower perspective.

Both here as well, a folder for a handy 6x6 easy to carry and a good TLR (Rolleiflex or Mamiya Cxxx) for slow and serious work. I love to use a Rolleiflex with a Rolleinar, though I also like the handling of my Agfa Super Isolette and Isollete II on the street.
