I do feel sorry for this guy. But would you buy any expensive gold-plated piece of Nazi memorabilia in ostensibly perfect condition, and not google the thing quickly first? Or ask a friend? Our poor chap here didn't, and plainly thought he was some kind of expert. I wonder if it sits in his house next to lots of fake Nazi jackets, helmets, and the Hitler diaries...

I dispise the use of the combination "Fools and Nazi's" ... as long as you guys don't have your KKK and Guantanamo Bay thing sorted out yet, which if I may remind happens in a time when everybody in the modern world has abbandoned immorality, injustice and discrimination (read: the modern world!) I think it wise to think over once or twice and adjust your thread title to Fools and Americans..... And in this case using the "fools" adjoined to the american way of doing things today which is not any better than us Germans 60 years ago, at least Europeans/Germans learn from history, a state of mind which the Americans, today, obviously lack ......

I am German-born but have lived most of my life in Canada. The person who wrote "Fools and Nazi's Rush In" I believe does not endorse the beliefs of the KKK any more than you and I do, so you shouldn't use large brushstrokes and make generalizations about Americans yourself. There is a huge distinction between Germans and Nazi's. I can't think of too many positive things to say about Nazi's and if you can, then your politics are much different than mine and the person's who wrote "Fools and Nazi's Rush In."

jan, suffice to say I am not american, and was merely implying that I don't find buying 'Nazi memorabilia' a praiseworthy pursuit. I hope you'd agree. I have just read the Victor Klemperer diaries, an amazing, affecting work, and am well aware of the difference between Germans and Nazis. I made no insults regarding anyone's nationality, which would be out of place here, I hope you'll agree. Let's leave it at that.

The behaviour displayed in that thread shows perfectly why I have never joined Photo.net.

Apologies in advance to any Germans reading the following for any terminology used.
Unless something is an SS item or a Nazi Party item, it is not 'Nazi' memorabilia. Much is simply from the German armed forces of the era, many of whom despised the Nazis and the SS.
My parents fought WW2 against 'germans, jerries and adolf' they rarely mention the war being fought against 'the nazis'. They never say 'a nazi bomb destroyed our chip shop' they say 'a german bomb...'.
It seems ludicrous to me to make illegal anything bearing markings from the german military of the WW2 era. Doing so will not change history. If we are to avoid a repetition of the past, hiding it away is not the way to go about it.

Btw, I do not collect such items, and have zero interest in such items. I simply despise censorship and historical revisionists. I also make a very clear distinction between the germany of 70 years ago and the Germany of today.

Anything that carries either a swastika or a the German Nazi Eagle with swastika is nazi paraphernalia - and anybody who collects something (official, public museums and historical research organizations excluded) with those symbols on it is at least very suspect - so the the thread title 'Fools and nazis rush in...' is more than correct, and frankly I don't get what Jan Cornelius got so worked up about.
May those scumbags who either make such nazi trash, or buy it, rot in hell!

Oh, and BTW, there is a huge difference between what the US are doing in Guantanamo Bay right now - yes, it is unethical, morally wrong, and against everything that the American constitution was intended to be by the founding fathers, but there is not even th slightest reason to mention this in the same paragraph with what the Germans (and Austrians - I don't want to exclude my fellow countrymen who were particularly zealous in following everything the Germans said) did 60 years ago - which was a, after all, the biggest crime in the whole history of mankind. Please keep your historical facts correct!
Comparing nazi crimes/the holocaust to other crimes against humanity (Stalinism, the killing of Native Americans by colonialists, etc.) is a typical strategy of revisionist neo-nazis, so you'd better be careful with that!

In Hinduism the swastika has represented two forms of Brahma. Clockwise it represents Pravritti or the evolution of the universe flowing outward & counter clockwise it represented Nirvritti the involution of the universe.
