For the LOVE of COLOR...Post Yours

I like your intense style. Do you ever print your work? I am wondering how these hold up on paper rather than on a screen.
Thank you, though I am not sure what you mean by “intense” - do you mean bold/contrasty?

I have about 20-25 bw and color prints hanging in my house ranging from 8x12 to 48” on the long side and they match what I expect from my digital files. I do not print my own prints anymore so I use a digital printing service. There were many times when a print did not match what I would expect from the file I sent. As I sell prints, this was an issue I wasn’t happy with. So, I started getting a 4x6 or 5x7 size print first as a test/contact and would adjust my files to fit the printers results and had good luck with that method. I still do that but recently I started using a service named Whitewall and have had to make very few changes to my file before committing to a large print.

As an aside, with online posting and viewing, I always wonder what people see on their separate screens that are set to different brightness and calibrations…

Thanks for your reply and useful information.

I think I mean your use of grain and microcontrast, plus your interesting use of colour saturation is what I mean by 'intense'. I hope that makes sense.

I print on my own printers so I know how difficult it can be to get things right and I create my own printer profiles or do extensive testing with black and white modes and different papers. I also know that many viewers do not have properly calibrated monitors so who knows what they are actually seeing...

I have always been wary of using 3rd party printing services, but I have been tempted by the ones that make a silver print from a digital file if they still exist. I think Ilford used to do this.
