Shot on film in very dim conditions, this depicts a "Barong" - a mythical creature (a good one who fights the powers of evil) in the Balinese "Barong and Kris" dance.
I love the atmosphere of this shot - an atmosphere which is conveyed by a combination of the movement blur and the intense and warm colors.
I think I took it in around 1996.
Gianyar Regency, Bali.

Quite reminiscent of Ernst Haas, congrats on that Peter!

Thank you DwF. That's big praise, I am a fan of early colorists like Haas. 😀

It also reminded me of some photos I had seen in the old Life Magazine. Occasionally, blurred shots like this turned up from photo trips abroad and appeared in the magazine this one reminded me of some of those too. Come to think of it some of those Life shots I admired might well have been Haas shots - he was published prominently by them. In any event it was good luck on my part - so many such shots do not work of course. I scanned this only a couple of years ago and it was really only then that I realized what I had. Until then it was just another bloody blurry slide shot that I did not know what to do with and it could have sat in a box forever. 😆 But I must have liked it enough to even bother scanning it, otherwise I would not have bothered.

Often it's that seeing after you really stepped back from the canvas. Nice result for sure Peter. 🙂
