Forget about rendition, resolution, Bokeh, etc....
I give you... ERGONOMICS
I just took the (hard) decision that I officially dislike my Ultron because its focusing is too stiff. I already ordered an Hexanon 28mm instead..
A while ago, I would have considered ergonomics as some kind of secondly important to optics. Not anymore!
Sooo:
I like short throw focusing
I hate infinity locks
I hate stiff focusing (I find it really important in order to focus fast and right)
I am not so fond of the 1/3 steps on ZM's aperture rings.
I don't care much for tabs as long as I still have some surface to focus. My cron asph is ok though.
The little woobly pull out shade on my 50mm cron is a disgrace to Leitz (was it too much to ask to addd a locking device??)
After having used the old canon 50mm f/1.8 (fantastic lens BTW), I really felt it is too heavy for my taste.
What about you ?

If the lens is very fast (like f1.0 for example
) I like a longer throw, but in general I like a shorter focus throw too. I don't particularly like tabs but hate infinity locks. Leica slide-out hoods are ridiculous. The only one they did right is the 75/2 which has a twist lock (that stays locked) when it is extended. Leica hoods in general seem to be poorly designed although the rectangular hood that comes with the 35 ASPH is exceptional. I dont think that the barrel engravings are particularly legible, I'd like to see a clearer font and I understand the recent Summarit lenses had a new (or was it old?) font that is more readable.

I like lenses that perform to specs. (sounds more trivial than it is nowadays).
Agree with the OP. Except I have nothing against long throw since close up I mostly focus by moving.

Agreed. 1/3rd stops screw up my exposure calculation in my head.
And short throw focusing is a pleasure compared to my summilux lenses. The 75 is a horror. I have to rotate twice over sometimes.

i am so not picky about the small stuff.
i don't seem to notice any of that.
although, i do like the cv small lenses for the r4a so that they don't intrude into the finder.

Guys, guys, it's rendering, not rendition!

I agree ergonomics is a lot more important than it is given credit for in choosing a camera or lens. Recently, I handled several digitals which fit very poorly in my hand. The Panasonic Lumix & Leica Digilux 3 also got poor ratings on ergonomics. I believe that when you pay as much as you do for the camera or lens you should be satisfied ergonomically.

funny...i remember a thread bout the 35mm biogon-c where you were gushing about the ergonomics before even taking a shot

size is different from ergonomics i think.
i liked the small canon lenses with infinity locks and also the big 50/1.2 canon lens - i can deal with both.
plus in this thread i was talking about close vs long throw and i never notice the 1/3 steps on the zm lenses etc.
so out of a long list of concerns size is the only thing that concerned me.
