Forum for DP1 Yes/No/Maybe?

Judging from the two hours I spent with this camera earlier this week, it really shouldn't be talked about. At all.

That's funny.. because the last girl I had "relations" with said the same thing about me... :D

*bows*

Thank you.. thank you.. I'll be here all night.. don't forget to try the waitress and tip the veal ;)

Joe,

Like many things on this thing called "the internet"; "IAWTC" is a type of slang.

It means "I Agree With This Comment" and it is most often found in many forums across the online world :D

Cheers,
Dave

i had all that figured out...except the actual meaning part...;)

and thanks for the agreement btw = by the way

I think it's an interesting camera but we don't need more forums on RFF. Make a Digital Compacts forum, if anything, then all the discussion on related topics can stay together.

If you include the DP-1, you have to include the Ricoh GRD and the GRDll. RFF is not the apropriate place for these cameras.

more details?

more details?

aside from the slow lens and wild flare, anything else wrong with this little camera?

I personally like the Fujis, and have been playing with the f40fd, and f50fd, like them a lot, but always looking at other things.

I think the point and shoot forum should be adequate. We have a forum for (evil) SLRs, not for Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Leica, etc., slrs.
It's a good compromise that allows us to discuss other cameras we have without killing to focus of RFF.

Maybe the fact that it's called the point & shoot forum is what's misleading.
We take it to mean any piece of crap that you pick up for $79 at the department store.

I like rxmd's suggestion about renaming the forum to digital compacts.
There are a lot of high-quality digitals that aren't RFs and aren't DSLRs, like the Digilux 2/LC1 and the DP1 is the latest in that vein.

Yeah, I spent two hours with a guitar and I can say guitars are crap.

But of course, I don't know how to play the guitar.

You don't suppose my rush to judgment was incorrect, do you?

Slow to focus. Slow to write. Slow refresh rate of screen especially when panning. Plastic feel. Too expensive!

Well, since you're comparing with someone who might very well know how to play the guitar and has just found that a particular guitar doesn't cut it for him, I guess it was.

The Sigma DP1 defines a class by itself, IMO.

It's been a few weeks since it's release and there isn't a new forum for it yet.

How odd!
The DP1 doesn't deserve a forum. If people stopped buying heavily flawed cameras then maybe manufacturers would be more careful not releasing half-baked products.

So.. I know this has been asked before - but given how many people seem to "dislike" (and like) the Sigma.. how does it compare to the other 28mm focal length camera .. the Ricoh GRD II ?

I haven't used either camera but from photos I have seen from both cameras the Ricoh GRD blows the Sigma away. I checked out the review PoPhoto did back in Feb. & the photos didn't impress me at all.

Joe, I agree with you 100% & I'll even up you one: Olympus OM SLR's shouldn't even be compared to a RF camera.:D
