Forum Perfomance diabolically bad !!!

Is it an east coast/west coast thing? It's been very slow for me for about a week. I don't think the page generation numbers are a good indicator of speed.

When posting this reply page generation was listed at 0.2 seconds. I can tell you that the wheels were spinning for 5-10 seconds as my browser tried to load everything.

Yeah, I don't think the problem is so much in page generation - as it is delivery. It seems to be a connection issue that's causing the slow down.

I don't think its a routing issue but rather a server internal issue. The page build times seem to indicate its not in VBulletin but tapatalk may have installed some apache handlers or database routines that VBulletin debug may not be able to pickup. All guess work from here.
But response is definitely quicker since debugging was switched on.

for me just now
Page Generation 0.26911 seconds

Oddly slow response times seems to have developed in some areas and not others.

Stephen

Odd thing is, this über-slow load isn't like that all the time, couple of minutes later I'm also at 0.2something.

Just a glitch in the matrix that causes 7.something to 9.something loads. Happens once in every 20 - 30 page loads I estimate.

Just posting in case it helps...?

EDIT: I'm also seeing pages generated in 0.2something that take over a minute to fully load, lots of reconnects etc. Even on this thread that contains no images. What makes it slow it the Quick Reply box to load, the posts already listed are fast.

Incidentally, I spoke with my ISP earlier today just to check they hadn't introduced any kind of throttling. They tried for me from a a very high speed connection they have. They said response earlier in the day was around 10 seconds for them. But that was from before debugging was switched on.

I've noticed that RFF is slower to load pages for about a week. Yes, it seems that pages with images are affected, but since this is a photography forum, most pages have images.

I'm in Dallas, TX, by the way.

I don't mean to complain. This is still my favorite *free* internet photographic diversion. I'm just sayin.

Its now reverted to slooooooooow again. Page generation time says 0.22927 but it took about 10 seconds. Page graphics took ages. browser progess bar got to end and then there was a delay.

Mine hit a blurp at about 3:02 or 3:03. Pictures took for ever to load, tried it again two minutes later and all was well.

Worst kind of problem to have.....

Ugh.

Hmmm, no problems for me here (in the UK)? In fact I haven't noticed any problems with speed for quite a while.

Try VBP Graphite Expand without the white font.

I'm suddenly REALLY fast :confused::confused:

EDIT: White skin was slow with me as well, but not this one:confused:?

EDIT II: I've flushed my cache on Firefox and set it back to VBP Graphite Expand - White Font again and it stays fast. I'm running Mac OSX 10.6.7 and Firefox 3.6.3 btw.

There are differences as to how skins may get stuck in page rendering if the server is slow to deliver some elements - there are skins with high backward dependence within a pages as well as some that can render top down right from the start.

another possibility is hard drive badly fragmented or nearly full.

Unlikely. These days "servers" generally are virtual to the point that the "hard drive" does not exist physically, but is some quota on a raid array or the cloud. If performance degrades nonetheless due to space issues the entire branch of the hosting provider's operations is oversold - usually a clear sign that the provider is heading towards a bad end, and should better be switched...
