Hi,

I have just joined the forum being advised by one of this member on the level of global knowledge availaible. :)

I am a keen old/modern camera user from the czech republic in any format.

I have recently purchased a Contax III from my local shop, for something around 190$ :D. The camera is in a good shape and fully functionnal except the ligh sensor.
From the info provided by cameraquest, it seems the camera is from about 1936/37.
I am trying to guess if the lens is from the same period, it is a collapsible one. I would say yes. What do you think ?

Camera S/N C10849
Lens S/N 1911451 Carl Zeiss Jena Sencor 1:2 f=5cm

Thanks,
Morphi

Serial number of the lens puts it in the same time-frame as the camera. Probably 1936. I suspect it has been with the camera since day 1.

Sweet combo. The light meter was never this camera's strong point, don't worry about it. But a nice pre-war Sonnar? THAT's what Contax is all about!

Welcome to the zoo, take lots of pictures, and have fun.

William

Theile's book of CZJ lenses gives a delivery date for this lens as September 29, 1936, part of a batch of 2,000 5cm/2 Sonnars. Enjoy the camera!

I am impressed. I can't believe this is a so old camera and it works like a charm.

Thanks a lot:)

I know morphi very well and I advised him to get this Contax III. The lens is in a stunning good shape for this venerable age and I am very much looking forward to see some photos from our new fellow member! ;-)
