This one has all the elements of a poor high iso sensor with lots of noise in the blue channel. Perhaps you apply my GRD trick where you turn down the in-camera saturation level to reduce the blue channel noise?

I going to reserve judgement until someone with the photographic ability to match their bank balance posts some pictures. Most of the shots I've seen would be technically quite poor whatever the camera, so I really don't know what I can learn from them other than people spend too much money on cameras they can't get the best out of, but then Ferrari doesn't only sell cars to racing drivers 😀

If anything it is encouraging to see that the camera isn't capable of "automatically" producing excellent results and that in the wrong (read: unskilled/inexperienced) hands pretty inferior results. From what I've seen of the small amount of images shown here (in our gallery--someone posted some test/first shots), in the right (skilled hands) the results were quite good. Seems more tool-like than toy-like.

BUT, noise is noise and ywenz found us some pretty ugly examples of just how bad it can get.

What are you assessments?

Many of the M8 photos I've seen all around the web during the past 3 or 4 days make me want to order one. It appears the M8 will streamline my workflow for adding hallucinogenic /surreal images to my portfolio. 😀

I also need to learn how to use the M8 properly- but maybe a few shots (no masterpieces ;-) including 100% crops give you an idea of the possibilities:

They were all made at 800ASA (640 + 1/3EV) and f1,4 (35Asph) with standard noise reduction by C1:

georgl: perhaps we have different perceptions, but to me the 100% crops indiciate that the noise reduction was heavily applied and the result is a water color effect on the image and the crops shows little detail. Try turning down the noise reduction, or no noise reduction at all.

Also, is there option to turn down the in-camera saturation? I believe this will help with chroma noise at high ISO.

You're absolutly right - it's always a compromise to achieve the best overall image impression. Most people prefer Canon's heavily filtered JPGs, so I didn't want to shock them with the RAW-truth ;-)
C1 seems to have nice filters, but it is also very harsh with the raw data. Even at lowest ISOs and good signal-to-noise-ratio images look someway "dirty" and revealing finest details. I haven't tried to print them, but at least when looking 100% crops on the monitor the carefully filtered images are "smoother"
