I have a friend, she does it work - and she's stuck in adelaide for the next 6 weeks or so... she sent me a message that she's tired of eating hotel food / eating out....

really cool friend... so if anyone in Adelaide wants to meat with an american friend of mine from Texas for a fun dinner, let me know ---

drop me a pm and i'll shoot her phone number to you

I live in Tasmania now, but I was "stuck" in Adelaide for most of my life and it really wasn't that bad. Your friend should take a drive through the Adelaide Hills. Visit the wineries there. Take a tour of the Barossa Valley, or, even better, the Clare Valley. Check out Victor Harbor. Take a long walk on one of its beaches, it has probably the best urban beaches in the country. Besides, it also has some of the best and most affordable dining in the nation. If she's tired of that perhaps she's not looking hard enough?

So what does she do for work? And what does she shoot? I'm a long way from "home" these days but I might be able to hook her up with some photographer friends or send her to a couple of decent cellar doors if she likes a drop.
Cheers
Brett

I'm stuck in Melbourne where I've lived most of my life. I'm actually quite enjoying it. I go to Adelaide infrequently and always enjoy those trips. In a new city the thing to do is find a supermarket, and the university. Once you've found the university the good and cheap eateries are nearby and other cultural offerings and you're off. Adelaide is a pretty safe place. Your friend should venture up to North Terrace and see where the crowd takes her.

The other thing worth doing in Adelaide if visiting for a lengthy period is to visit the Adelaide Central Food Market (behind the Hilton Hotel in Victoria Square). It is a large and cosmopolitan market (fully open on only certain days of the week however) and is a food lovers dream with delicacies from pretty well everywhere in the world and some good cafes too. Also Asian supermarkets. If your friend is tired of restaurant food and wishes to prepare some of her own (assuming there are facilities where she is staying) a visit is highly recommended.

As others have pointed out a trip to the nearby wine districts is highly recommended. (Think Napa Valley).

If you wish to pass my Flickr site along (see my signature) it will give her some idea of Adelaide streets and the Adelaide Hills and this may give her some ideas about things to see and do.

I may possibly be able to make some time to catch up with her, and I also have some close female friends who are always very sociable and friendly and who may like to meet your friend if she is also of a friendly type. I will PM you with my details

she's at the hilton, so, I'm certain she's hit the food market - she's done a few wine tours -- I'm relaying info as i get it to her --- she's been going back and forth for the past 2 or 3 years

Has your friend considered taking a scenic flight over Wilpena Pound and the Flinders Ranges? Very ancient desert country with jagged low ranges, and quite spectacular.
