From Fuji X-E1 to X-E2 to X-Pro1

I read that it had problems with auto focus and that somehow the ocular viewfinder--which is very appealing to me in principle--couldn't be used to focus adapted lenses, which seemed odd. It is a rather large camera as well--which might appeal to some, but not to me. I am happy to be corrected if I err n these impressions.

The ovf cannot be used to focus adapted lenses.. No ovf split image or ground glass.. Focuses fine using evf or LCD mode. Dslr has green focus led for manual cameras as well as the ground glass.. Fuji probably figure why add cost when there is the evf.. And given their primary concern is to make money off of Fuji camera body and lens sales.

Well, it might be worth pointing out that the magnified focus view (EVF mode) is always available even when using the OVF just by depressing the rear dial.

In practice, use of the OVF with adapted lenses is best reserved for zone focusing or slow, deliberate composition. A 24/25 M mount lens used at f/8 gives an amazingly fast 35 efov shooter.

Ahhhhh... Ovf is for scale/zone focus w/ legacy lenses. U still need the evf for manual focus. Set the size of the lens to get the right size frame lines. Either use the lever or the mag/scroll button to switch to evf from ovf. If u used the mag button, then a half shutter puts u back to ovf for final composition.

I cannot figure out which button is referred to for switching between OVF and EVF. I can do it with the lever on the front. Once in EVF I can use the rear button/dial to magnify the view, but I can't find a button that switched to EVF magnified directly and then returns to OVF at the half press. I have read the manual pretty thoroughly. Maybe this is in one of the FW upgrades? TIA, John

The scroll wheel to right of ovf on the back panel where the silver trim is located.. Is a two function control. Acts as both as scrowl wheel and a button. From ovf mode, push it in, u are immediately in evf mag mode.

I have this kind of knee-jerk response, cuz people often forget to mention that way of accessing EVF mag view while using the OVF.

Gary, it was frame line size and if I remembered correctly, I was also having difficulty figuring out where the focus point was. For some reason the image that I thought was taken based on the OVF was completely off (not parallax) and not having correct focus point. But this was sometime last year before the more the last couple of firmware updates.

Thanks about the tip on being able to get magnified EVF directly from OVF, it would be really handy.

What type specific I accuracy are u asking about? Frame line size or parallex?

Parallex is a given as the distance gets closer, no difference then normal rf film camera.

If I remember correctly, Fuji provided a firmware update to tighten up the frame line size.. Basically being conservative to give a bit more in real image to account for things like parallex.

For their own zoom lenses, the frame lines change w/ the zoom.. There was a fw update when the first zoom was shipped.

Many thanks, but I still don't understand. On the back of my XP1 there is no silver trim. On the back panel, along the top row of controls, left to right, I have the VF window, a couple of sensors, the View Mode button, the Indicator lamp, the rear command button/wheel, then finally the AEL/AFL button and (lower down) the Q button.

Perhaps this is related to some other way I have configured the camera. For example, I have the AEL/AFL button set to "switch" for Lock Mode and to "AF lock only" for the button functionality. This is so I can use this button for quick focus lock in manual focus mode.

Actually I think I will, two bodies with the 23 and 56 and done. By then the AF tracking should be decent (and my other digital cameras pretty boring).

4x5 and digital is a nice combo.

No problem, but on my XP1, as I have it set up right now, that button does not switch me between OVF and EVF. I wonder if anyone knows if this is normal, and what the rogue settings might be? I'll try it with different AF modes etc, when I get home this evening and see.

The cmd/scroll does not provide this function unless u are in the manual focus mode.. Go from afs/afc to mf ...

AFAIK you can do it by pressing front control wheel.
