This is my first serious attempt to develop the film, and my second roll with the voigtlander 21mm, all the photos are shot in Milano, at the "Sforzesco" castle.

Thank you for your tips and comments

Franco

Not bad for the first roll. Never have used FP4+/Ultrafin plus myself, but I would have expected something less grainy. Are you maybe agitating too much/too rough ? Overdevelopment seems unlikely with 6 minutes the Massive development Chart gives.

Just continue experimenting. It is easy to develop yourself and it is also a lot of fun. It will take many rolls before you get a good feeling for a film/developer combination. Don't forget to enjoy the ride..

Next time better post in the Film forum, lot of knowledge and experience overthere.

It's possible this is symptomatic of all 21's and I apologize if it is so, but I'm noticing a similar softness that has been surprising. Definitely shooting at hyperfocal yet so no far that I'd be getting diffraction. But it's not a sharp as my 15 nor as my other, longer lenses (35 and up). It's a nice FOV but not as sharp as I'd like. Your thoughts?

I had a brief affair with the lens this summer and quite liked it. Like any 21mm it distorted a bit too much for me on the edges but it was nice to have in my bag if I needed it. My current daily kit doesn't go wider than 35mm, which suits me fine most of the time but it would be nice to know I could go wider if I wanted to.

I think you've taken some nice shots here.

I find it quite interesting to run across your thread entry so soon after my latest visit to my favorite local photography store. Two of the younger sales employees who have been notoriously digital SLR minded were quizzing me about my rangefinder collection. Something fishy was going on. As it turned out, they had just been introduced to the world of film and were having a wonderful time with it. Anyway, I ended up loaning each , one of my Minolta Hi-Matic 7's and a Canon GIII QL17. We'll see how their adventure works out next week.

Thank you all, I expected it to be less grainy, but i didn't know the relation between agitation and grain, next time I'll be more quiet! (thanks Peter)
About the sharpness, I'm waiting for a roll of slides, to say something about it, here we have two variables: new lens and first develop... Not a good way to do experiments ;-)

I don't know what your agitation sequence was, but you might slow it down. Try GENTLE agitation once per minute, at the most once every 30 seconds, but do it gently, don't slosh it about. Also, make sure your developer is exactly 68 degrees (fahrenheit).

Nice photos for a first time around. I like the one with the girl in the foreground also, puts things in perspective.

Spiderfrank, nice first effort. What sort of dev. tank are you using? If it is a Paterson type & you are twisting the reels, try 5 gentle twists every 60 sec. If small stainless tank try 5 inversions every 60 sec. and keep temperature as close to 20c as possible.
