Hello, i just got what looks like a nice 50/1.2 canon RF lens on ebay(fingers crossed) does anyone know the front cap size? it is coming only with a filter. a polarizer...

i'm wondering how to use a polarizer on an RF...tips?

thanks, mike

The standard cap was a chrome 57mm push-on style. The lens accepts 55mm screw-in filters, so a generic 55mm clip-on cap would work fine.

Be careful with filters, the front element proturdes beyond the ring so some standard filters don't provide enough ring releaf and the filter glass may hit the front element. I have used Hoya and B+W filters without problem. I believe others have reported problems with Tiffen filters.

rover, good point about the filter issue. Fortunately the lens I have came with a big bunch of Canon flavor 55mm filters.

You may find depending on which style of Canon filters you have, the chrome mount 'flush & flat faced' type will not accept a clip in lenscap, so will require the larger diameter press on cap.

I think these chrome mount filters are an earlier design and most are knurled around the outside diameter - so can chew up a plastic cap over time. Also, not having a female thread at the front, cannot be stacked together.
