Leica LTM FSU lens on Leica lllc

Leica M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
The J-12 35mm f/2.8 is such a good lens so I decided to get one for my Leicas and my Canon P.
Just won it from grizzly33bear

wait until you have the money to buy a very good/excellent condition IIIc or similar. No point getting one that isn't perfect, as it will ruin the 'Leica experience'. I've used FSU lenses on a Leica Standard and a Leica IIIc, no problem.

Personally though, stick with the FSU bodies until you can find a really nice leica body at a fair price. Chances are a 'going cheap' body will have an issue somewhere, like a dim rangefinder.

Im going to have to disagree w/ ash on this one... actually, I had the same perspective originally, but then after purchasing one in excellent condition, I was always too afraid to take it out and actually shoot with it! I ended up buying a user M to shoot w/ and I am currently looking to buy a user leica II/III to replace my mint-minus one, for the sole fact that, while the user may not be as aesthetically pleasing, the mechanical precision of the leica experience is still there 100%!!! and believe me, i have feds, zorkis, and leica. there truely is a difference. and its worth it!!!

I think that's the view of most people who spend a lot of money on a good camera and feel it's irreplaceable.

thing is unless you buy to collect, you buy to use. If someone is buying their first LTM leica I'd recommend they spend the extra money on a nice one. My IIIc I bought was at a really good price and is in excellent condition, except the rangefinder is hazy and a little too dark for me. This means there's no point shooting with it until I fork out the extra to have the rangefinder overhauled. If I had saved that money in the first place, I would have bought a more expensive copy with a bright/overhauled rf.

It's all well and good to say you're too afraid to go out and shoot with it, but all you're doing then is depriving another user of an excellent camera to go shoot with. So by all means buy a really grotty rough user camera (they can look great) but with barnack's be prepared to need a new rangefinder!
