I cranked it up to "ASA 1600" and the color images were either too dark or blurred (slow speed). What can I do to remedy?

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bill

be sure to set and keep checking that aperture is at widest, it often creeps slower than it needs to be as you zoom.

Thanks--if you SET the aperture in Aperture Priority mode (I didn't), will it stay there or does it continue to creep as you described?

it may move

it may move

if you set it while at a wide angle zoom setting, to min. like 2.8, then zoom out it will increase, like most zooms, then when you zoom back in to wide, you may need to re-set it to 2.8 again.

Only a few p&s's have constant aperture zooms, one that I have is a Panasonic Lumix that can retain f2.8 throughout the zoom range.
