I find FP4+ or Pan F pretty hard to beat, sometimes (usually in the midst of an 11 minute development cycle when the sun is shining and the birds twittering out the window) I wonder why I even bother trying others to tell the truth, but I do love to play. I've been shooting the traditional Ilford films almost exclusively for the last two years and developing them (for the most part) in either HC-110b, ID-11 or Microphen. I get beautiful results from these three films in these developers, lately shooting PanF/FP4+ about 50/50. I tend to mostly shoot HP5 in the dreary winter light here, which has finally left us for a few weeks. I get all the shadow detail I could want, and since grain and I have finally come to terms with each other I really shouldn't be wanting more. But as I said I like (love?) to play, and the experimentation is part of the game for me. I just pulled some Plus-X out of the freezer today, and ran a roll of Forte 400 shot at 100 and one of FP4+ shot at 50 today. The Forte was an experiment looking at grain and the FP4 was a dumb mistake. Fortune smiled on me tho- the one potentially good shot from the FP4 roll seems to have benefited from the pull. The next roll of ACROS is loaded up, but I think this old dog shall remain with his 'traditional' technology films for a while longer. Had I stumbled upon ACROS while shooting in the studio I bet I'd have loved it. Better shadow detail outdoors than Delta 100, so under tungsten light I bet it would be fantastic- that combined with the great reciprocity would have saved me a lot of time- the average exposure with the 810 on my last project was around 4 minutes.

..i've an emotional affinity for the Neopans, there is something about the packaging, the green and white box, the ease with which the plastic cylinder opens, and the naming of each..SS..ACROS...PRESTO...SUPERPRESTO..
i'm going to stick with the Neopans for a while..1300 feet in the freezer, and a warm roll of ACROS in the loader...and just this past evening shot my first ever roll of 120 ACROS thru a new/used 500C/M down at the TorpedoWharf under the GGB, (see #54 above), a good site for me to return to for consistency of light and subject, while i try to get a handle on exposure time, before moving on to other sites and subjects...so ACROS it is, just a couple months ago it was SS with no desire what so ever to try ACROS, because it was "modern", and now that i've tried it...i've got this attachment to it, an inexplicable affinity

No, shadows are certainly not the same- I was looking at a print of a big white panel truck, and there is a lovely gentle gradation of very light tones through the white where the siding is slightly rippled. This is what I was thinking about- like what's going on in the shirt at right in your image.
(nice layering by the way, how long did that take in Photoshop?😀 )

I'll see if I can get that print scanned tonight.

Fuji Neopan/Acros 100 is my new best friend for my 35mm cams and my TLR loves 400.
Beautiful blacks...and creamy whites...just printed some shots today and was blown away...my daughter who says that B&W is boring loved the shots too...

I really like this film on overcast days.

Ive come to the same conclusion. This stock reacts amazingly to diffuse lighting. Its nice with direct/contrasty light but really is exceptionally creamy under a big cloud or silks.

I found some acros 100 in local store. Are they still the same formula mentioned in this thread? Shall I give it a try? It looked too contrasty to my taste but can be a combo with a low contrast lens and rodinal.

I used it recently, I shot it at 80 EI, developed in HC-110h, 11 minutes, 30 seconds initial agitation and then 3 inversion at 10 minutes, 6 min., and 2 minutes, 68 degrees. These negatives were just a little thin but scanned very well. I didn't find it contrasty; I really liked the results. Too bad it is discontinued. Here are two from that roll, one indoors and one outside in sun.
