I discovered this film last year only to learn later that it was being discontinued:bang: Always works out that way, huh?
However, I keep getting mixed info on it's availability in the US. "Discontinued but then brought back 35mm due to response" is what I have read, but I have not seen anything official from Fuji regarding it dated within the past year.
B&H and adorama have it in stock, and freestyle has been out of stock for some time but they told me the other day that they "found" some extra leftover stock (97 5-packs)...
So how much longer can I expect to see this film available? For now I put 10 boxes on hold at freestyle and that should last me quite a while.
But I'm just confused on it's fate.

I did a quick search as, after seeing some results on the web, I purchased 15 rolls in 120 last fall from B&H.
It appears that it is dead in all formats and what you are seeing is existing stock. Don't quote me on that. It is certainly gone in 120.
So if you like stockpile.
Personally, as soon as I have shot my existing supply of all Fuji emulsions (and that's a lot) I will be switching over to a Kodak/Ilford mix.
I have always liked Fuji film since I got into photography. I loved Neopan 400 in 120, love Across, love 400H, love Provia 400x, the list goes on. Fuji made/makes great film but they all appear to be on a slow death march at the moment. Time to support companies that look to be staying in the game.

It was discontinued, brought back due to response, and then cut again. To the best of my knowledge. The last I checked, it was not listed on Fuji Japan's page for pro film.

Its too shame, well Portra 800 is still available(at least for sale), but its not the same film.

Yeah, I've shot Portra 800 as well and I much prefer the Fuji's contrast/grain.

You can still get long outdated but frozen stock on evilbay, but be careful- I bought a big batch a year ago from ultrafine, and it was good when I bought it and I certainly got my money's worth but recently it's age has been starting to show (even in the freezer cosmic radiation will slowly fog film, especially fast film.) 800z does have a unique look that I love-- slightly gritty,poppy but not overthe top colour, and wonderful with flash or other artificial light, but I must say from a technical standpoint the new portra400 leaves it coughing in the dust. You can also get new fresh superia400x for peanuts which is pretty darn good for a consumer film fwiw.

Fujicolor Superia X-TRA 800, while not quite as nice as 800z, performs well and is easy to find.

I think that high ISO color is clearly the realm of digital. The market has spoken on that one.
