I'm being told the X100 will be released in the UK the week of the UK Focus show, it's RRP is £999.99. So that's around the 9th March.

well, if I buy one, once I've checked one out in the flesh (or is it magnesium), I'll be buying from Europe, for €1000. Most manufacturers don't scalp UK buyers quite so gratuitously...

Was planning on picking one up in Cologne if I decide to get one. Can UK residents claim back VAT when leaving Germany?

No, sadly. VAT is consistent across the EU, all though you can buy at net price in Germany if you're VAT-registered, apparently.

The fact that the tax regime is more or less consistent across Europe makes the UK price all the more unjustifiable. WHy would anyone pay £100 extra, when postage from Germany will only be £10 or so?
